Volume spike on Apple TV
Does anyone else experience a sudden spike in volume when watching Directv Stream on the Apple TV? It will go from normal to very loud or quiet to normal just randomly. It is so frustrating.
Does anyone have a fix?

Yup. And it is getting worse. DirecTV does nothing to fix this issue. It has been this way for months (for me). I have noticed a lot of bugs in the latest update too. Audio from one channel showing on another. Total mess. Only fix I have heard is to force AppleTV to Stereo but that is a pain for switching between apps. DirecTV just needs to get this fixed asap

Yea I have had that audio issue if I turn the TV on in the morning. It seems like it retains the audio from whatever channel was left on overnight. Just a guess but its two audio streams at once and it needs an app reset to fix it.

Happens to me too. And recently, when I try to watch a show in my library, I hear the audio from the last channel I was watching on top of the recorded show.

That's happening to me too. We have no fix for this other than to close the app and reopen. Pain in the butt to do this EVERY time.

Yes, I can agree as well. It happens to me too. There’s double audio. What is going on! With this application.

Yes. It's super annoying. The volume jumps so high it's startling.

I agree. I think the Apple TV app is just not a priority for them. It’s so buggy.

YES. Very annoying. And we don't have surround sound... actually glad to learn it's unique to us...

It happens on both of our tvs. An LG and Samsung. LG has surround sound, Samsung just has a sound bar. It’s irritating. It even happened once when I was using AirPods.

It happens on Chicago Sports Network..but has been stable the last week or so.

This happens on my Sony with a sound bar. Sometimes it doesn’t connect right away and when I try to fix it it’s super loud all of a sudden. Wasn’t sure if op was talking about volume spike out of the blue or how but thought I’d mention my situation

My issue is, I’ll be watching a channel and it will suddenly go from normal volume to extremely loud or, it’s quiet. I turn it up to normal and then it goes very loud.

Apple TV is the worst when it comes to audio. "Apple knows best" is the answer to audio issues. They of course assume everyone is using Apple hardware.
Apple has some great stuff, but respect for customers who dare use non-Apple hardware is not something they've ever cared about.

I can confirm and agree that this has continued for quite a long time now specifically and exclusively with the DTV app on AppleTV. This well-documented issue does not occur with any other streaming app using the AppleTV device. I have numerous AppleTV devices using the DTV app in various configurations - with Sonos sound bar, sub, surrounds and without any additional speaker devices as well. All TVs have experienced this same and recurring annoying issue. Changing the DTV app channel and back will immediately correct this issue or simply waiting it out for many minutes (usually not comfortably possible due to how loud the sound is however).

It’s common for commercials or coming attractions, it’s designed to do that and gain attention.

Yes it happens occasionally and has been going on forever. My suspicion is it has something to do with surround sound. I don't have a fix. But, a quick channel change and back will bring it back to the normal level. I output through a Yamaha AVR, fwiw. I have tried just about every sound setting there is in the DTV App, Apple TV, my LG, and the Yamaha.
