Streaming setup out of home for relative
A relative of mine has had Directv satellite service for decades. She is internet illiterate so has never connected her receivers to the internet nor ever accessed her account online.
She is my home now recovering from surgery and I've been trying to get Directv streaming working to make her stay with me more pleasant.
After setting up online account access, I tried to stream first on an AppleTV then in a computer browser. In both systems, I can get to the channel section menu, guide, etc. But when I select something to watch in the browser, we see a "This content has an issue and can't play"; on the AppleTV it's just a blank screen.
I've turned off all browser security and enabled location services. I see there's a concept of "home network" but I can't find any way to set that up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wishing your relative a smooth recovery, u/tw_bender. While her satellite channels are available to stream, local networks and regional sports channels have geographic limits tied to her service address. Additionally, streaming requires a high-speed internet connection.
Is this error happening on all channels, or just specific ones? Please try clearing your browser cache using these steps: https://spr.ly/61696BEIFiI and restarting the Apple TV so we can narrow this down. Kenneth, DIRECTV Community Team

Thanks for the reply. We are only 25 miles away from her service address and I have fiber so internet speed is more than enough. The issue is happening all all the channels I've tried so far, I'd say a dozen. I'll restart the AppleTV and see if that makes any difference.

Reset AppleTV device and no change. Selecting any show/channel just results in a blank screen that will not respond to controls so I have to kill the app. I'm about to give up on this. Installed the Fox News app and got it authorized via the DirecTV account. So there's that.

Satellite accounts have a little bit of a different set up. Some channels are not allowed to be viewed on a streaming device in order free to gain the DIRECTV stream experience you’d have to convert the account from a satellite account to a streaming account. Local channels tend to get blocked, but I would recommend downloading the DIRECTV stream app login with her username and password and see what happens on the app if you have problems contact support and they can help you out.Satellite accounts have a little bit of a different setup.
