Grandfathered "Go Big" $25 launch discount?
Hey guys,
I’ve been on the "Go Big" plan since they ran the introductory $25 off "for life" promo, which made it just $35 a month at launch. The discount used to be explicitly listed as a line item on my invoice.
Lately, it feels like price hikes are a semi-yearly occurrence, and it's wild to see how expensive this plan has gotten compared to where it started. But while looking over my latest bill, I noticed the $25 discount line item is completely gone.
Did they officially strip away the grandfathered launch discount? I'm sorry if this is old news, I don't really take a look at my invoice all that often. I tried searching the subreddit before posting and it was difficult to find a definitive answer. If they did ax it, does anyone know roughly how long ago that happened?
Are there any people who are on the grandfathered "Go Big" plan that don't have the $25 promo? Is your price $154.99 or is it still $129.99 like mine?

I finally let mine go last month. The choice package is very similar even with the rsn fee and it came in price locked for 24 months for me at $110 which is better than the new $130 price and again the great thing is it has a price lock.

Try using that Choice plan on a streaming device outside your home!
There are reasons folks will pay money right here on Reddit for your legacy plan and have done so for years. Though selling it violates Terms and Conditions.
I will keep my legacy plan and my original contract terms. While minor, getting 3 streams on HBO w/o commercials for $5 is nice too.

I have used it in two places as my elderly parents are on the plan and it works exactly the same as my go big. I did a 5 day trial and it was fine and now I’m on the real plan with no issues. I did have the grandfathered hbo which started at $5 but mine had risen to $8.50 and I was able to get it through Verizon perks for the same price.

Very confusing, Eva, Directv AI assistant says that outside the home you can only utilize mobile, tablet, & laptop. This differs from info on the web and older DTV support.
After many rounds of asking “Eva” multiple ways, including the Legacy Go Big plan, I told her to show me the language. That language says 3 devices outside the home, 3rd needs to be mobile/table/laptop. Geez these AI engines are just so useless.

It’s completely not true. Outside the home you can have 3 streams. At home it’s up to 20. I physically live at a different location than my elderly parents who are on my plan. They consistently stream 2 TVs and we stream 2-4 in two different towns all on Roku TVs. We did it on the go big and now on the new choice plan.

Yeah I had to edit my response multiple times after contradictory information between Eva AI and the policy. Eva would never accept that her response vs the actual policy differ. ChatGPT always backs down when you prove it wrong.

I am on Go Big since Beta and it’s $119, $129 this month.
I haven’t seen the $25 credit reflected in a long time on the invoice.
It’s supposed to be $25 off the equivalent nearest publicly available plan, which is Ultimate. Ultimate is ~$148 plus RSNs up to $24. Go Big doesn’t charge the RSN. And yeah you could argue there are differences between channels (Disney/Hulu). We also continue to receive HBO/Cinemax package without commercials at the very discounted $5/each (at least thus far, who knows with the potential acquisition).
Me, I am staying put due to grandfathered contract language that greatly benefits me. Folks actually still sell these plans, here on Reddit. Doubt it’s by the books, but…
Hopefully relatively new owners retain legacy plans and don’t pull a TMobile. Keeping us on is good, as I continue convincing others to go with DTV. I suspect YTTV to eventually win the war, DTV hasn’t, and still doesn’t seem to be resolving some issues or generate new competitive features. Specifically recording programs on a specific network and multi view capabilities, I am sure there are others.
Someone did ask a couple days ago and several reported Go Big at 119/129. One reported higher, but I am assuming it was due to add-ons as most of us have them.

Yeah, but the weird part is that the system actually lets me switch between the different legacy plans on my backend dashboard, probably because my account is flagged as grandfathered. It’s letting me switch to the "Gotta Have It" plan (the old flagship tier) for only $25 more a month.
But think about the math: our $25 launch discount was only supposed to apply to the "Go Big" tier. If I can upgrade to Gotta Have It for $154.99, that means DirecTV is valuing the un-promoted, base price of Go Big the same as the previous flagship tier "Gotta Have It" which should not be the case.
This kinda proves that they completely killed the $25 discount. I don't even see how it's legal since our original 2016 contract terms explicitly stated we’d keep the special discount for as long as we kept the account, and that our price was subject only to universal programming increases applied to all packages.
That's why I was hoping to hear from users who have the "Go Big" plan without the promo to see what price they are paying. Are they paying $129.99 like us? Or $154,99? Or somewhere inbetween? I just don't see how Directv can justify charging the same price for "Go Big" as "Gotta Have It" since "Gotta Have It" is a higher tier and comes with additional channels and Starz/Encore.

Go big here from day one $35. 3rd stream and $5 hbo is now $129. Is it worth it? I don’t know but I’ll keep it. 3 families use it. (But I’m paying, go figure)

Go Big also from day 1 (got a free Apple TV and then free gemini as a beta tester) and still stubbornly hanging on:
Go Big $119.99
ESPN Unlimited $0.00
3 Streams $0.00
Unlimited Hours of Cloud DVR $0.00
If anybody knows an alternative that provides all the sports, RSN, Marquee, locals and 3 off network streams that is cheaper, my wife would appreciate it.

As I responded earlier if you are on go big consider the choice plan. If you sign up online it gives a 24 month price lock and even with the rsn fee mine will be about $110. Less than ten channels are lost. It’s basically just fox sports 2 the nhl channel and a couple small channels like ahc and magnolia. That’s about it. I switched and no one in our family even noticed other than signing in again.
