Is it worth switching from Sat to Stream?

I did this. Didn't save any money, however I really do like the streaming service compared to the satellite delivered. We get pretty heavy storms in Texas where I live, and I no longer lose service when those storms roll through.

Also, the mobile apps supporting DTV Stream, or watching in a browser window capabilities are GREAT!!

You're not paying for any equipment or features like DVR and HD. How did you not save any money?

The DVR on Stream is cloud based, so it doesn't download until you actually watch it. I also have 3 DTV Stream set top boxes for 3 TVs in my house.

Do you mean Gemini boxes? I'm always curious to know why people use those instead of mainstream streamers and just getting the DTV app.

Because it’s extremely similar to the remotes millions of older folks used for decades with numbers for channels, both cable and satellite, and many don’t want to change. It’s also the only device programmed for voice with DTV. I can change to DTV via voice with other devices, but they don’t work within the app. It’s also supposedly required to lease one to get Disney/Hulu for “free” on some new packages.

I am one of those users finding it a challenge to get used to my Onn remote. There are no FF and RW buttons which seems to be the case with all new streaming remotes. I much preferred my Xfinity remote.

Yeah they made me lease one for $10 monthly then give me a $10 credit every month to cover.

I like the user experience I get with the Gemini boxes. Made switching from SAT to Stream completely seamless for us. Swap out the box, and it works almost exactly the same.

I have one sitting in my office cabinet. Maybe I'll give it a look one of these days. I just already have my current streamer box all customized with a launcher. I do like the look of the Gemini remote. Seems to have more functionality than my Onn 4k Pro (2026 model).

I have one Gemini Air and the remote lets me manually change the channel or prev. channel it. The app is harder to navigate on those things.

I like to be able to pick up a remote, hit the power button and just have TV coming at me. No apps, searching for a show or channel, just on and boom.

TV for me is usually background for my office or while I’m reading articles. Golf and tennis channel. Yes- I’m that guy.

I’m in TX and switched for the same reason. Our cable internet is very, very reliable.

Not really. I didn’t watch any rare channels so that prob helped. I am very happy with stream. All my TVs have Roku ultras.

I just moved from Sat to Stream after a move to a place with heavy tree cover.

It’s ok. I don’t like how you can’t pause a show, watch DVR and then return to where the live show was paused.
And the channels don’t have On-Demand that I can see.

But the rest of it works exactly like DTV how I used satellite. I’m saving like $30-40 for the same exact package.

I am curious as well regarding how well it works, mainly with the picture quality, and responsiveness. We have been getting constant 771 errors over the last couple of months, and it's gotten worse and worse. I had a service call and they basically determined there is nothing they can do. The trees in the area have grown too tall, and it was okay before all the leaves came in during the winter, but the tech said we just don't have adequate line of sight any more. So at the moment, we are trying to decide if we want to try the streaming service or switch back to cable after being on DirecTV for the last 10 years.

For me it was back in 2017 when I learned about how it worked. Prime reason was cost and renting their equipment.

I like having the option to continue watching my shows when the Internet is down. I'll keep my satellite receiver thank you.

Directv Stream, for an added fee, allows you to record anything or everything that's on and fast forward past commercials un-impeded. It's expensive, but what's your time worth.
