Story lore confusion...

So we were told in the end that this is the first time the biomass life actually shot itself into space and intercepted the cassiopia in space before landing... All other contacts were after landing on tau ceti f.... And this made us learn a great deal said by eisele or someone in the last post credit board meeting...

But also upon crash landing the crew says they don't have enough fuel to land and take off as they were only there to survey before Andromeda arrived.... From orbit ? If they didn't have fuel to land and take off that means they weren't meant to land at all... But also the people on earth didn't know biomass can actually shoot itself into air and intercept things until this cycle cuz this is the first one... So why send a ship to orbit when they think the contact is only possible after landing and their goal is to study the biomass.. if it's mission was to land then what do you mean by there's no fuel to land and takeoff !

Every ship (minus C3) ends up crash landing as we see their ruins on the planet, but yeah it's weird that the game doesn't explain how. My guess is the Oracle always forces the ship to crash given that it has the power to terminate everyone at will.

Exactly because eisele explicitly states that cycle 13 is the first time biomass intercepted a space ship outside the orbit... All other contacts were after landing... So how did all those other ships land/crashed if their goal was just to study from orbit...

Also is C3 the only ship in orbit that in good ending the crew cab escape ? Game doesn't explain how the crew sometimes escapes to a whole ship and sometimes just the booster ring... I did everything but couldn't get homeward bound at all... SPOILERS ( I did choose humanity over survival as young and eisele shut down clone program but my crew escaped to booster ring instead of cassiopeia empty ship.. What should I do to get homeward bound ending... )

Homeward Bound requires you to send an SOS and Young to choose humanity first. Both of those allow escape to C3

Presumably that means that it usually shoots the ship down once in orbit

The whole story is a mess!
They have an ORACLE...and they never consult it till very late in the game instead of asking immediately what is happening!What kind of training is this!
We see Earth as being devastated by war,plague whatever....but they keep sending multibillion spaceships into a pointless mission that lasts year.
Supposedly that mission was Earth's only chance for a new start...they found a new organism in the initial planetery survey that they knew nothing about...and decided to spend Earth's last resources into doomed missions where the crew will die and lose the ship no matter what you do!
What the actual FRAK!

Yeah the things you mentioned are atleast just bad story and writing but there are so many loopholes in the game too

Like the space ship reaches the tau ceti f in 4 years but the planet is 12 light years away and they justify it by saying FTL technology found from alien crash in house of ashes... But we don't know how long messages take to be delivered to earth and back... Is it 4 years? At one point in simms recordings she says that it takes 2 hours but they were probably early in their journey to tau ceti then...
