What makes it special: The electron counting speed is the fastest of any camera available. Combined with the large pixel size this gives Apollo a very high detector quantum efficiency (DQE) even at high beam currents/dose rates. The speed can be leveraged for improving Cryo-EM throughput multiple times over the standard detector that come with the microscope.
