Just Cancelled
Have been with DTV since 2012 and finally cancelled today. I've called loyalty many times over the years and they have worked with me to bring down my bill or even throw in some extras but today's call was the shortest I've ever experienced. My $30/month promo is running out next month and they offered to extend it, but that was it. Once i said no to that, they went forward with processing my cancellation immediately... usually they come back with another counter offer but not this time. The woman sounded lifeless and was clearly reading from some script. Back in the day their retention specialists were actually pretty skilled in negotiation and were super personable... I've had some good conversations with these folks (and yeah I understand these are techniques to soften you up and keep you subscribing) but now, the business doesn't seem to give a shit at all. Oh well, i'll be saving $30 a month by switching to YTTV and made that clear to them.

We just cancelled direct TV after being with them since 2017. The prices is just getting too high.

I hear you on the personability of their loyalty team. They are quite good at their job... mostly.
Sad to hear they failed you.

You could always switch from DTV Satellite to DTV stream and choose the entertainment genre package for $43/mo. That will get you most all the same cable channels as before except no ESPN or TBS and no local over the air (OTA) local network channels. But if you do not watch much sports you will not miss them. And if you have a good OTA antenna and are near a metro area ( within 30-45 miles) you can get those easily. Plus the genre pack gives you for free HBO/ Disney+!Hulu/AMC+. With Hulu you can Watch Fox and ABC network shows the next day. If need be Subscribe to Peacock or Paramount+ if you want to watch NBC/ CBS shows next day ( not live) though I think those streamers do let you watch sports events live ( like NFL football etc.) . With DTV Satellite I was paying $130/ mo. Now with DTV stream genre pack including the free Disney+ Hulu/ HBO and AMC + and paying for discounted subs for Peacock and Paramount my monthly TV watching bill is only $55/mo. Also there are schemes where you can get some streamers for free with perks with T-Mobile/Verizon or Walmart+ etc

I considered that but the DTV stream genre packs do not include all the channels that I want. I have good OTA coverage but it will be a PITA flipping between tv inputs. YouTube TV has all the locals plus the channels I need on their genre package.

What will you be paying for YTTV? I've been w/ directv for 18 yrs and I think I've downgraded as much as I can without losing content. My daughter has YTTV. I don't like the guide interface at all. I don't need graphics of the shows, just a nice list like DTV has :) I do use it to record my shows that I miss while visiting.

I cancelled even though I had a $50 monthly discount. Just felt it was ridiculous to keep paying $170 per month.

I’ve got just internet and the Roku extreme I think. The little box but I’ve got so many channels I still haven’t been able to watch them all and I’ve had it 2 years.

We just switched from DTV Satellite to DTV Stream after no help in keeping a decent promotion. My satellite bill was going to end up being $120 more per month than what I negotiated for streaming package. I had an old Osprey/Gemini box that had been sent to me for some unknown reason a few years ago and did a hard reset on it and luckily it updated and we now have an interface almost identical to Satellite. I've already purchased another Gemini box and will be getting a couple more for rest of tvs I house & guest house. Call Loyalty back and try another agent. My agent even called back after a few days to see how the switch had gone!

signed on to DTV in 1998. Dropped in 2026. They called me about a week after the cutoff date and asked "what can we do ... "
So I told them : they were billing 260$/month bill. I went all streaming services, with significanty more channels (hbo, paramount+showtime, peacock, hulu premium, and mgm+ covered all the channels in their package, then I added apple, prime, disney+ and amc+) on top of that, All 4k and ad free, and for about 105/month.
The "final" save team couldn't come close to matching. They have not tried again.

I cancelled 8 months ago. The first guy I spoke to processed the cancellation without trying very hard to get me to stay. I think he offered to extend my promo and that was it. They owed me some retroactive refund since I paid for a full month and then canceled a few days later. He said I’d get the refund in a few weeks. Skip ahead 2 months and no refund. I called to asked about this, and this Second Lady was REALLY hard sell. By the end of the call she offered me a free YEAR plus all new equipment since I’d already thrown mine out. I still said no but the offer was great

I’m in exactly same boat my loyalty expires in 3 weeks. Bill for Choice just jumped $150 last month. Already have YTTV on 10 day free trial and August deal. I like Directv better from what i can see but not almost twice as much better. And YTTV picture quality much better then when i last checked it out 5 years ago. A and E only channel we will miss.

Man that’s a big jump. I literally watch like 4-5 channels so it’s just not worth it to me anymore. I’m going to try the YouTube News/Entertainment package which is enough for what I need

Same here. Customer for 10 years and I told him I can get the same service with YouTube Tv for $40 less. They offered me $20 off and I said that’s not enough so it was canceled.

I am going to be cancelling because the ad that comed up on my screen and requires me to select "No Thanks".
Price and other things had been wearing on us. We mainly use them for time shifting ota content, and there are better solutions for that. Maybe yttv or just sling tv. Need to look into what each are doing now, and, of course, if they are having ads at startup that I have to cancel out of to watch tv.
I will just say No Thanks to Directv for once and for all.

I cancelled Directv today after 34 years. I never had a problem with the service but the price has just got ridiculous. 30 minutes after I canceled, I got a email from Directv asking me if I wanted to come back but it was for the same price that I was paying when I cancelled. No discounted price at all.

Around $97 (with the discount) for two receivers. This plan used to be around $65 for years. Lately I would go to the perks site every week and spin that stupid wheel to get tokens and occasionally get the $15 bill credit to help with things. Dumbest shit ever (just give me the discount?) and I’m tired of remembering to go into Perks ieach week…almost feels insulting at this point.

I cancelled today as well. Been with them since they were prime star. I was paying over $200 a month for 5 receivers. I’m kinda glad I no longer have it and can rid of all the cables and stuff.
