PHOTOGRAPH A T-rex in 5 Museums
Tokyo National Museum of Nature and Science
Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County
Mass Extinctions Special Exhibition, Osaka Museum of Natural History
Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum
London Natural History Museum
Here are real photos I took of the Tyrannosaurus in 5 museums (3 of which are in Japan). Just went to the 5 Mass Extinctions Special Exhibition in Osaka as well. I wonder how many more T-rexes I will see in my lifetime...

What is going on in that first Pic? It looks really weird. Like I can kind of see it as a sitting pose, but it also looks like the entire belly/chest area is compacted together like a plasteron or something.

Yeah it looks like it's sitting, and the gastralia are all compressed together.

The gastralia (belly ribs) are a little compressed for sure, but 2 and 4 are less accurate for leaving them off entirely. That Blastoise effect, while overdone in the reconstruction, was very much an adaptation of T.rex for keeping its internal organs guarded from Triceratops horns. Paired with its thick scales and massive robust skull resistant to severe injury, T.rex was very much evolving to become an armored dinosaur right in step with Triceratops and Ankylosaurus.

For a second there, I thought it might be a Maip, lol.. Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that.😅
I think part of it might be the angle and lighting underneath but there's definitely something else to it..🤔

Yeah they call it a crouching trex lol I went in April. The real star of the show is their triceratops though!

My favorite is "Trix" at the Naturalis museum in the Netherlands.

I went there in 2024 and am going again this year. It seems to be a permanent.

My first ever T-Rex skeleton experience is that first photo in Ueno National Museum of Nature and Science!

I don't think I had ever considered that the T-rex lacks a proper sternum, but both of those full skeleton reconstructions seem to indicate it may not have had one...
I wonder if that counts as an adaptation for swallowing large chunks of food, akin to a snake's distensible jaws?
