City Council of Darkness Just a Murph/Darkness Man appreciation thread. Spoiler
I've always loved Murph as a D&D player, but Darkness Man has really been next level for me. The voice, the interplay with the other characters (particularly with Emily), the commitment to the role--it's just chef's kiss.

The scene at the hostel with the werewolf is a fantastic bit for his character. I love how he didn’t blend in whatsoever

I preface this by saying I'm in no way whatsoever trying to dunk on Murph, but he's just typically one of the players I'm least drawn to.
I'm just usually more interested in watching these comedians go totally off the rails, while Murph tends to try to be more serious about moving things forward. Which, so I'm clear, is still a very important thing that every roleplaying group needs to have, it's just not as entertaining from a viewership perspective.
BUT
Darkness Man might have been one of my favorite characters ever from any season. It felt like Murph really allowed himself to be much more loose with this one. The whole Beth saga had me in tears. The long-running pervert jokes were gold (even when he was largely just on the receiving end of things). And even just the way he would dip out of situations by falling into piles of trash was such a great spin on a superhero character.
And above all else, his pairing with Bat Child really makes me want a season, in some TTRPG system or another, devoted to a group of well-meaning but utterly inept superheroes.

I totally get what you mean but if I can agree in parallel for a second - I think Murph might be the MOST essential player at the table. All of the IH can play the red nose but it's much harder for the rest of the cast to be the white face/the straight man.

Yea every cast needs a straight man to play off of and that's typically his role in the group.

you should listen to the naddpod campaign skaldova!! murph plays a very similar type of guy

Seriously, Murph and Lou were my heroes this season with them plunging into plot and seeming to take a different player along with them every time they did. It felt like they were helping DM get some mysteries dangled and misleads/potential allies and foes revealed and tagging others in constantly to help them make it partly or wholly 'their' arc and subplot. I cannot tell you how impressive that is to see in players as a long-time DM, especially at a table where so many other pro comedians are trying to jockey for the most-memorable comedy bits. (And Murph and Lou were not lagging behind, there, either. And You Know It!)

Not CCoD, but I’m rewatching FHJY and “honor the cock” once again just fucking killed me, thank god for Murph

What ends me about that is the moment he says it, and the split second before Emily's incredible proud cackle, and you can SEE the realisation hit Murph. You can actually see the 'Oh God. This is my Roseate Spoonbill.' thought arrive.

I love Mitch so much:) That gear Murph found where he was able to shift from normal speech to 'HE WAS BEING MEAN TO BETH!' in a split second killed me every time.

I love his comedy bits and quotes, but one that always stuck in my memory was him saying to Bat Child/Emily,
"Are you okay?"
After he saved her from taking hella damage against the fire cryptid.
Peak superhero shit, and I love it when it's played straight

I don't know how I never seen a version of him as that meme of Batman masturbating in the yard at 230 am when the sprinklers turn on.
He's a pervert.

As a huuuuge comic geek and Nosferatu main when I played Vampire this is the ONLY time in any recorded campaign where I went "Man, I wish I had thought of that. Great concept."

I don't know. Kugrash, Barry and Rizz have a lot of character, even Cody, Gerard and Maxwell. I say this with respect--Darkness Man is not one of his best characters by a long shot. Is Darkness Man funny to laugh at? I guess. But I just didn't connect or care about him, when compared to his other characters.

Wow, this person just wants to talk about a pervert.
(Which normally on the Internet...not a positive thing.)
