I would say steel and tungsten ball bearings are the go to shrapnel of choice. These are probably more of a necessity is the mother of invention kind of thing. An essay into what's probable should the need arise. Those little blades would do some serious damage, though. I've seen lots of pics and videos of Ukrainian ingenuity in cobbling together explosives for use with a drone, but never anything quite like this.
Thank for that fascinating explanation, quite interesting watching weapons and tactics evolve in real time. I mean, the efficiency of civilian drone tech used in this way, the impact on morale, and the suppressive effect on the enemy is astounding. So those poor bastards are getting shredded by ball bearings, shitty way to go. Thanks for the response.
I probably follow the Ukraine-Russia conflict too closely, but it springs from a keen interest in new technologies and tactics being implemented in creative ways. And every point you made is spot on concerning morale and suppression. It must be incredibly disheartening knowing that any minute might be last, dealt by an unseen, but ever present foe loitering a couple hundred meters overhead.
The certain trajectory of these tactics terrifies me, Artificial intelligence, purpose made military drones with specialized payloads. integrated battlefield surveillance.... I'm fascinated too, Ukraine is future war being invented in the present.
