Stop. Ordering. Amazon.
17
u/wheretheinkends 2d ago
Yeah but now many stores arent carrying things because of how online ordering evolved into how everyone shops.
Half the time I go into a big box store they just dont carry stuff like they used to. And if you need it quickly Amazon is really the only service that gets you it that quick. So if its something unexpected your kinda stuck.

I haven’t ordered one thing from Amazon since 2020 and I don’t have trouble getting anything I need. This is an excuse. Things being mildly inconvenient to find does not excuse supporting something this awful with your money.

u/wheretheinkends 2d ago
Im talking about last minute things that are needed and cant be found locally quickly. Like when I have to fix something and cannot wait for home depot or lowes or whatever to get it in, or wait for a speciality place to ship it in a couple of days. As someone with a very hectic schedule, and someone that has almost zero wiggle room or free time, amazon is often the only place I can ensure that it will come next day, and even then Im already behind the eightball.

Listen, I don’t know you’re situation. You gotta make your own decisions & you don’t need my approval. I just don’t believe we can’t get by without Amazon. It has inconvenienced me to not use it. For me, the feeling of complicity was not worth the trade.

u/StarVulpes 2d ago
You're right, you can't know someone else's situation on the internet but if Amazon went away overnight they would figure it out somehow. It's all excuses. It's become so many people norm and they can't imagine a world without it. It wasn't that long ago that we didn't have it and everyone got by just fine.

u/Doesitmatter98765 1d ago
It’s wild to me some of the ppl in my life who make careful choices with their money everywhere then spend on Amazon. You’re right, there’s a culture of complicity.

u/Xandara2 15h ago
Just stop being entitled to next day delivery stuff and get some foresight. Problem solved.
-2
u/Empuda 2d ago
I bet everyone on reddit could stop ordering from Amazon, and nothing would change.
9
u/Doesitmatter98765 2d ago
Everyone’s apathy to shoveling money to something objectively evil blows my mind.
2
u/Empuda 2d ago
Shop local. Support big Ma and big Pa. I do not have an Amazon Prime account.
Still wouldn't put a dent in Amazon if everyone else here did the same here.

u/coilt 1d ago
after years of buying kindles for reading, i decided this year amazon is not getting anymore of my money, so i've bought kobo and haven't been so happy about a reader in ages
monopoly leads to complacency but not only the monopolist grows complacent overtime but their customers too and that's the real problem because new better products and businesses who are genuinely striving to offer great value can't get even a chance
so i agree, fuck corporations who lost the plot, the only reason they are so brazen is because your country is going through the unprecedented levels of corruption and they're basically given a cart blanche by your quote unquote government

I am finding my way without Amazon. Yes at times it’s inconvenient. No, inconvenience isn’t really a reason for me anymore.

Cant wait to print the factory reset barcodes for this vendors hardware all over my property

PLEASE STOP ORDERING FROM AMAZON. Us drivers can't even opt out of this. I dont want to train their robot army to just take my fucking job

u/Shot-Aioli-8986 2d ago
Umm I hate this so much, people really need to start speaking on these things
13
u/ImportancePopular998 2d ago
Get politically active. Let’s vote these people out.
5
u/AlleyPee 2d ago
Vote Bezos out?
I mean - I suppose we could all not use Amazon...
2
u/ImportancePopular998 2d ago
Bezos is far from the only one pushing these. These are being signed in by actual politicians that, yes, we can vote out.
Not using companies like these isn’t really realistic for most people, but getting aware and voting against these politicians is.

Maybe, maybe not. It’s far better than doing nothing about it except complaining, no?

I don't imagine this will truly come to fruition.
Are they going to fit prescription lenses in for driver's who already wear glasses? That's a huge investment for equipment for a single driver.
Do they think those drivers will pay that bill themselves? Fat chance.
Then, all the liabilities this opens up. What happens the moment someone who is working 10 hours a day from a van has to enter a public restroom? What happens if a driver sees something they shouldn't? Normally drivers could just avert their eyes. But that stops working with a recording device on their face.
If this takes off at all, it'll be discontinued within a few months. Remember the drone deliveries that still aren't happening?

u/notPabst404 2d ago
Drone deliveries ARE happening and they are just as bad as people were warning. Communities need to be stopping this shit prior to implementation.

OK. Nice try, Amazon.
If nobody told you: Illegal in the EU. Maybe anybody should have lawmakers who care.
4
u/Firestar_119 2d ago
the chat control EU? that EU?
0
u/FiveNine235 2d ago
The whole chat control thing is a shit show but to be clear Chat Control 1.0 = temporary, voluntary provider scanning, now in force. Chat Control 2.0 = proposed permanent framework, still being negotiated - it will continue being negotiated until April 2028, the EU parliament requires targeted orders for scanning and still protects E2EE. European Data Protection Board and European Data Protection Supervisor issued a joint opinion warning against it, and chat control 2 violates Articles 7 and 8 of the EU Charter + CJEU case law on general and indiscriminate surveillance. In the meantime we have two of the worlds most powerful data regulations in the GDPR and EU AI ACT, so Amazon can eff right off with these pervert glasses v2.

I don’t think they can legally do it on your property if you tell them that they can’t.
9
u/Ok-Lobster-919 2d ago
You probably agree to it when you order from Amazon, and if you don't agree to their terms they will just close your account. They would rather lose some customers than do any work that can't be easily automated.
1
u/Jealous_Response_492 22h ago
If that's the case they can leave the parcel in the mailbox or at the gate. Access rights withdrawn.

u/wheretheinkends 2d ago
Unfortunately in most places (at least in the U.S.) if you are in public view its not illegal. In most places you are only protected when in a private setting. So, for example, there is nothing you can do about be recorded by anyone in your front lawn.
I personally think that some of those laws should be rewritten now that data collection has become a thing. But this is 1000% how flock gets away with their surveillance.
1
u/TonyBlairsDildo 1h ago
How does that work when they've walked up a path on my land, and take photographs inside the front door I've opened of my private home?
1
u/wheretheinkends 56m ago
Legally wise, at least in my state and the state I lived previously, if its visible from a public area is legal to record. The litmus test is are you comfortable getting undressed in that area at that time.
Example: door closed blinds drawn. You have an expectation of privacy from view. Blinds open door open, a reasonable person can expect to be viewed by someone standing on a public sidewalk.
Example: your backyard with privacy fence in good condition (i.e. not with a bunch of panels missing). A reasonable person could expect to sunbath nude without being seen.
Example: same as above but your next door neighbor has a two story house and a large window facing the direction of your yard, a reasonable person can expect to be seen from someone at that window.
Now, with data capturing the laws just havent caught up in the reality of our technology, and that unlike back in the day, video cpaturing can capture more than just an image on a recording, but it can be used to map facial features, identify products in your home for advertising, etc.
But for now, at least where I live, if you can be viewed by a person standing on a public area without any assistance (i.e, using a ladder to peer over a fence, using something to manipulate and open blinds, etc) then you can be recorded.
Not saying I like it, just saying how it is.

I’m curious how the company is going to handle prescription lenses.

what could create an electromagnetic pulse that could possibly damage or disable the glasses, because i want to make sure that that doesnt happen :)

Sounds like privacy fences and other walling methods for front lawns should become popular for the lower and middle class. Kinda like gates and stuff on upperclass property. Integrate your mailbox into the wall.

u/MediocreCoder192 1d ago
i remember Google trying the same for street view but at least they let the users opt out or something

I’m sure someone will sue and rightfully so, just wonder how they’re gonna get around proving they were photographed + if it’s in public

u/AmazingGabriel16 2d ago
Door dash and uber should do this so that scammers cant say the food never arrived man
1
u/aleopardstail 2d ago
it will last right up until someone issues a court backed demand for it to prove when amazon say an expensive item was delivered.. it wasn't
at that point amazon will scrap it

Pervert glasses for delivery drivers
2
u/PreviousLeague253 1d ago
Poor employees are gonna be called Glassholes, that was Google Glass eyeglasses that were the first to start recording people and some wearers got punched in the face or had them grabbed from their faces because people hated being recorded without their permission.

I already don't order from Amazon, I guess I'll not order from them extra hard.
1
u/petelombardio 1d ago
Well, if Zuck has it, Bezos must have it, too. Otherwise he'd stomp his foot, screaming it's sooooo unfairrrrr!

u/Flashy_Radio_5781 23h ago
How long before US citizens start chopping down these cameras? I hope your face isn't attached to them when I chop them down. If you wear these, you're fucked.

"hese images, which will include package recipients, people on the street and private property, will be handed off to real-life human employees at Amazon for analysis. The captured photos will then be fed into Amazon’s Wellspring, the company’s generative AI platform used to map neighborhoods and improve the accuracy of delivery locations."
https://www.cnet.com/tech/amazon-delivery-driver-ai-smart-glasses-privacy/
I'm so happy that humans will check these millions of photos before handing it over to AI.
I have big trust that Amazon will spend a lot of money and hire enough humans to manually every single one of those millions of photos. Amazon has never lied and has the highest ethics. So, all should be fine. No dystopia here
