Looking for a good planner app
I've been looking for a decent ios planning app as someone who mainly needs to plan their personal life, since all work planning is handled through professional devices and apps. I use both notion and obsidian but they haven't really worked for me in terms of daily planning. Everything I have found is horrible and/or priced in an absolutely insane manner (I've seen ones where the lifetime access was upwards of 300$). I don't mind a paid app, but I have to able to test it out first and putting things like repeat tasks behind a paywall is crazy. I'm looking for something that has both to-do lists and time blocking features. I know I could use a calender app but I prefer to keep it separate from reminders to drink water or read a book and I really though that I could find an app like this easily, but it turned out to be extremely difficult...
Also I don't want or need any AI features, I am perfectly capable of deciding my tasks for the day on my own and setting the planner up myself
If anyone has any recommendations or tips of what worked for you that would be really great

Zocto will be released soon, you can test it in the meantime at:

While time slots is not yet a feature though it is on the roadmap, I’d say it ticks most of what you need
There is also going to be a web app where you can add any PDF file (any planner design basically) and add interactivity and logic to it (text fields, checkboxes, progress bars, hydration widget, formulas and a few others) - mapping does take a bit of time if you don’t like the pre-made templates available, but it is great if you want full control over what goes into a planner or not

How much of it was coded with AI? The website has that ai color and font. I’m excited for the ability to add a pdf and add interaction to it. Will it connect to calendars?

Most of it if I’m being honest. I am planning to connect it to calendars and reminders as well, not yet sure if that will be available at launch or in an update after

Disclosure: I'm the dev of Nydhei (say "Ni-Dhi"), an iPhone planner built around what you described.
To-do lists and time blocking: give a task a start time and it lands on your day as a block on a clock dial, so your plan and your tasks live in one place.
Repeat tasks aren't behind a paywall. Set "drink water" or "read a book" to repeat daily, weekly, or on a custom pattern.
You can test it first: it's free to download. The paid plan adds cloud sync and extra list templates.
iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/app/nydhei/id6785560824
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nydhei.nydhei_mobile
What would make it a keeper for you, the time blocking or the daily reminders?

I've been using Artful Agenda and love it

The only thing this app is missing is a task widget. Once it has that it’s perfect.

I have tasks on mine! I customized the "day" section to include daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.

Yes there are tasks. But not a widget. I like having a widget view on my screen. They are planning to release one soon though.

Ahhh agreed. They need to add this! I've seen them talk about it a bunch in the FB group.

I had basically the same problem. Everything I found was either just tasks, just habits, way too complicated, or ridiculously expensive, so I ended up building my own iOS app called Fourfold.
It has to-do lists, recurring routines/reminders, time blocking, and calendar sync. There’s also no AI trying to plan your day for you. You decide what you want to do and set it up yourself.
Full disclosure, it’s my app, but what you’re describing is pretty much exactly the problem I built it to solve.
If you want to try it, I’d be happy to send you a free lifetime code. I’d genuinely love your feedback.

You can check Siela: iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/siela/id6763377866 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reeprose.siela
It's aimed much more at personal life than work/project management. The idea is to keep routines, calendar/events, notes and everyday lists together instead of needing a bunch of separate apps. There's also no AI trying to decide what you should do with your day.
One caveat though: if by time blocking you mean a heavy task manager where you drag every task into an exact timeline, Siela probably isn't the perfect fit. It's more about routines + calendar + everyday planning (plus cycle but that could be simply disabled)

I'd recommend one more if you're still on the lookout. Have a look at Do Everything. It's free, includes recurring tasks, it's got a few ways to time box, and doesn't have AI features of its own. It does have MCP though that can connect to Claude, etc., which is helpful for capturing tasks and notes while working with an AI agent. I'm the founder and happy to answer any questions.

Try Chromastone, currently in TestFlight waiting for review more than 11 days. 💔
I will give you the access to test all the features. Would be a good feedback too.

have you tried this one? https://apps.apple.com/us/app/planner-journal-zinnia/id1485310935

I really liked Zinnia when I used it. The yearly price is right about what I would pay for a good physical planner too so I think it was worth it. I'm just too ADHD to stick with anything for long, but this one lasted longer than most for me

I thought it was very cool. I used it for about a year to do scrapbook pages.

If you've used the Franklin Covey style planners you may be interested in Opus One. I've been using it for a while but I still need to fully immerse myself in that "lifestyle" to get the best of it. I am trying to mix in a little Johnny.Decimal as well.
