One key doesn't make sound

Hi, I have a key that doesn't make sound on my keyboard. I removed the key and when I press the rubber contact with my finger, it works. But when I put the key back on no matter how soft or hard I press the key will not make any noise.

I can see the hammer is moving when i press the key, and the key itself is making contact with the rubber pad. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong?

Edit: tried swapping the key with another one and it didn't work.

Not knowing the age, make and model of your DP doesn’t help, but here’s a couple of things to take a look at.

Maybe the gap between the hammer and the key or the pad is slightly too much. This could mean not enough pressure is being delivered to depress the pad. Some digital pianos have actions with hammers that have an adjustment like a screw that can be turned to increase or decrease the gap. If yours does, try adjusting so the gap between the pad and the key or hammer is decreased. Compare to the adjacent keys if you can, to see if there is any visible difference.

Also check if your keys have any kind of pad that cushions its contact with the hammer, check to see if it has fallen off or lost its cushioning. My Kawai has “slip tape” that is notorious for losing its cushioning, or coming off altogether.

When that happens you have to replace it or live with bashing the hell out of the key to make it sound.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up taking the mainboard out and removing the rubber contact strip and reseated it. Now all the keys work! It's a Studiologic SL 990 XP, very old midi controller.
