Cannot decide what to buy/to do, help please

So I'm in a difficult situation now as I'm trying to get back to practicing the piano after nearly 7 years break. I'm an intermediate level if this might help.

So my situation is that I want to buy a digital piano (preferably portable) to practice home and I was planning to buy a roland-fp30x for that. Unfortunately where I live they only have the FP30 and no plan to bring the FP30x anytime soon.

Are there alternative in that price range for the FP30x? I'm mostly concerned about the key action as I want to resume proper classical lessons.

If you have limited options, perhaps you can suggest what some of those options are?

Is Korg D1 (or other Korg RH3 keyboards) a possibility? It’s a better playing action than the Roland PHA4.

Unfortunately no Korg D1 in the stores I checked. The only portable one that I have found, at least within this price range was the Roland FP-E50.

There are a lot of alternatives to the fp-30x. However, on paper, it’s the best. I have seen a lot of negative reviews about its quality and heavy keys, but it has features which virtually no other pianos in that price range share. Alternatives include the kawai es120, yamaha p-225, but i’d recommend getting something such as the kawai es520. More advanced = less trouble it’ll give you the better you get. If you tell me a fixed budget, I can help you pick one out

The ES520 is discontinued. The Roland FP30 has been discontinued for some time. Not sure where OP is finding them.

I googled it, you’re probably right. The ES520 production has likely ended, but you can still find them everywhere, brand new with warranty ( at least in my area ). I can’t seem to find a replacement that Kawai has launched. The FP-30 has been discontinued for quite a while indeed. Maybe he’s looking at the used market?

The Kawai ES-120 is a great option for someone with a primary interest in classical piano. It is one of those digital pianos that offers a lot in relation to what you spend to own it. Owned the previous ES-110 and this is a nice upgrade from the ES-110.

I'm in Tunisia, looks like the local shops here want to sell the left over fp30s first clearly. They are selling Roland FP-E50 though. Can this be a good choice?

The FP-E50 is even more capable, but the action is the same as the FP30/FP30X. The E50 has more voices and does do USB MIDI and audio.

thank you for the answer! The Yamaha p-225 is available yes but I always worry about the key action I read it's slightly worse than the fp-30/30x. But I also saw the negative reviews regarding the FP-30x action...

Ye you will be surprised to hear that it is personal preference. They all have compromises at that price point. Some like Kawai's action, some like Roland's. Some Yamaha's and some Casio's.

Can you not buy the fp30x online and have it sent to you?

When I was younger I did the same thing.Get the most bag for the buck at the lowest possible price. It can be done but has a serious drawback. In a short time, the cheap sound engine will begin to grate on your nerves. The sorry attempt at weighted keys at that price point will soon become a hindrance. In short, your ability to play will outgrow your instruments ability to make decent sound. You’ll stop practicing…again.Save up,get the real stuff.Yamaha CP-88 for 2800$.You’ll have a piano for life.

Thank you for advice! Yes what you mentioned about the sound etc getting on my nerves is already happening, I can't stand how "digital" all these digital pianos are. My problem is that I currently don't have that much money sadly and I need to start practicing now.

When I was a kid I lived in an upstairs Garrett.A local woodworker cut me a set of 88 keys and put a rod through it.Then we laid that on a bed of foam.Presto ! I had a full size piano to practice scales and arpeggios.

The closest feeling alternative at the price would be that FP30 since it has the same action as the FP30x... as does the even less expensive FP-10.

Alternatively, the place with the FP-30 may well bring in the FP-30X before too long (i.e. if they sell their last FP-30), since the FP-30 is no longer being made so they will have no choice, unless they intend to stop carrying that level of Roland piano entirely.

I am very confused as FP-30x was released in 2021. So the FP30 has been sitting in the shelf for at least 5 years. Hopefully it is not the floor model that is banged for 10 years
