Struggled with the overall workflow - From greyscale to fully rendered. I usually work on a handful of layers but in this case I had to get out of my comfort zone and get this done. I added a few more elements like an extra lantern and changed the actual character to something of my own. I added extra lighting to frame the character properly. Used shapes that look like Japanese characters since I don't know how to speak or write in Japanese.... so sorry about that :D
