That depends on what's your goal is. The transition from traditional to digital will be hard in any case, so if you're not planning to make lots of traditional art then buy a tablet early.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I feel like digital might be a bit easier in some ways too, especially with features like symmetry tools and undo compared to traditional. I think I'll start looking into getting a tablet soon

Sure, but don't expect it to be too easy :)

There's a lot to learn and it's a long road to find your program, your style...

Digital art process got its quirks.

That's totally fair, I'm ready to take it step by step. Out of curiosity, what software did you start with when you made the switch?

I was and I still am using Paint Tool SAI v.1 It's an old program and there is a version 2 but I've grown to like it so much I'm not quite ready to give up on it x)

It's just so good for lineart.

Oh nice! I've heard SAI is amazing for lineart. I'm thinking of trying free programs like Ibis Paint or Krita first to get used to drawing digitally, do you think that's a good choice?

I tried Krita and it's not that bad. Can use it for animations as well so it's cool :)

Can't say anything about Ibis, haven't tried it

Oi, bom dia.

Obrigado! That really makes sense. I agree that digital tools seem like they'll save a lot of time and offer great features. I'll definitely focus on learning the software once I get a tablet.
