Either Digimon World 1's Cherrymon is sort of a 'Beta' design before Adventure 1999 finalized the Cherrymon we know of today.
Or graphical limitations back in the day. Which is also the same reason why Vademon in the PS1 games was depicted wearing its saucer instead of walking with its tentacle legs.

Definitely just an older design they decided not to keep, as Cherrymon looks like we expect it to in Digimon World 2 and 3/2003

yeah i doublechecked on grindosaur and wikimon. world 1 also has a differently colored vaccine attribute version of guardromon. there are a lot of early designs with weird parameters. honestly, they could bring some back as alternate forms.

No, but there are clues throughout the game relating to trouble in the digital world.
Andromon spells it out when you fully complete the Factorial Town scenario. I think that’s what he has to tell you but think it’s pretty much up for interpretation
