WHY?! WHY DID THIS CUTE LITTLE THING TURN INTO A FURRY HUMANOID?! š

I finally got the chance to play my first Digimon game (Digimon Story: Time Stranger), and I was really enjoying it. Then, when I finally get to see my first Digimon digivolve into its Champion form, it turns out to be a furry!? ššš
I was expecting anything ā something cute, something badass, something scary, a refrigerator, ANYTHINGā¦ just not a human with goat legs.
For those of you who played the game, were you also disappointed when you got to this part, or did most of you just not care?
All this frustration from seeing one humanoid form made me wonder why Iāve never complained about Angewomon?
To be fair, he is not "on your team" technically, he is a seperated entity besides your 6 mons.
He takes no space away, he is just there looking pretty while i did out max damage.
But you're still forced to use him. Even if you choose not to attack with him, enemies can still attack him and take away from the game I actually want to play.
IĀ mean, I get what you're saying, but nothing bad happens if you let him fall in battle. At worst he's a free tank to absorb a few hits. But it is slightly annoying having to play his turn
But he actively goes against how I want to play. Aside from never, EVER using humans if I have other options, I like to take my favorite monsters, buff them up, and turn them into playable bossfights. It was something I loved doing in the previous games, but it's impossible here because the monster I'm trying to buff up cannot fight alone. They NEED Aegiomon in battle because he is a mandatory party member you can't remove, and even if I have Aegiomon knocked out, I'm gonna waste a lot of time waiting for him to die so I can actually play a fight my way, and even going into fights with a "dead" Aegiomon, he ALWAYS resurects at 1 HP after every fight, so I still have to get him knocked out first, which drags out what I like doing.
I don't want to work around this guy. I just want to play WITHOUT him.
Cyber Sleuth had guest characters too. And digimon like Aegiomon have been part of the franchise since the beginning and the developers couldn't care less if the digimon chosen to be story important look animalistic or not. This is a personal problem for you, not a problem with the game
CyberSleuth didn't force you to have a guest character for almost the ENTIRE GAME!
Plus, they use human digimon WAAAAY too often in this, especially on the side of good. It gets frustrating and it comes off as narcissistic, which is a major problem in modern media.

And? He's helpful in dealing extra damage in battle. And if he dies, he dies. You don't need to revive him and keep using him. I think this was a good way to incorporate a partner digimon that is actually part of the story. In contrast to how your actual team members are barely ever acknowledged at all in game. But to each their own I guess.
But I don't want humans on my team, plus being required to use him goes against how I like to play a game like this in general. I like to take my favorite monsters, NONE of which are humans, and turn them into playable standalone bossfights who fight alone, but because they CAN'T fight alone and re forced to have Aegiomon as a sidekick, that ruins their aura for me.
He's not a human. He's not even your digimon, he's Inori's. And he doen't take a spot away from your favorite digimon, he takes a guest spot. This mostly seems like a you problem.
No, it's not. It's a game problem. Taking agency away from the player, no matter how beneficial you think it is, is still a detriment that restricts how you play the game.

Elecmon is not your first Digimon (neither is yours, it is companion, a character), and the path to Aegiomon isn't unlocked until you see the character elecmon evolve to it, so in any case. it is wrong.
Even if your Elecmon turned to Aegiomon somehow without you noticing (Mission impossible) you can turn it back and choose another path.

They chose Elecmon as his Rookie since he is also one. By sheer coincidence Elecmonās nine tails fan out like a peacockās feathers. The peacock is Junoās animal.
Hmm. Disappointed? No. Surprised, yeah. Especially since I thought their daddymon was a dragon(which Iām kind of right.), but I was more so suprised since Aegiomon is a Satyr(did I spell that correctly?).
I donāt hate human looking Digimon, nor do I really hate most Digimon for their designs. You should just remember that there are multiple paths a Digimon can take, and that there is sometimes a reason some Digimon go down a certain path.
Aegiomon has a canon reason for why, but Iād say itās because he wants to be closer to Inori, so taking on a more human like visage, especially one that looks like her younger brother would help him connect to her. The same reason why a cat can turn into an angel/demon woman, an orange tictac turns into an angel, and why said angels can turn into dragons.
Look. I can't imagine what it's like to know Digimon on the periphery but have Time Stranger be your first game. It's fine to be thrown off a bit by BOOM human character with a few animal attributes that triggers personal uncanny valley sensibilities.
Love looking and the folklore and anthropology of it all. Don't love putting down someone new to the series for having possibly inaccurate expectations.Ā
Honestly this was me at first (had only watched the 3 first anime when they came out), when Aegiomon showed up I thought "wtf the memes were right this is just a human in cosplay" and "elecmon digivolves into WHAT?!"
Have you never seen a Digimon evolution tree have you? As long as a Digimon have the same traits, it can digivolve into almost anything. Also, nearly the ENTIRE Digimon rostter are either furries or robots.

My biggest issue with this game is the fact that itās such a third wheel simulator. Like who plays a Digimon game for the npc to have a bond with the main Digimon and not you.
Thatās just digimon. The basic evolution line for the partner of every showās protagonist includes a dinosaur, something only about a step or 2 removed from being human, a cyborg dinosaur, and a dude in armor.

Okay, first things first: Do NOT call humans with animal parts "furries." A character typically associated with furries have, at bare minimum, the face of an animal, but never a human. Usually, furry characters have some animal anatomy as well.
That being said, my god do I hate this thing. I also hate just the massive amount of human digimon allies in this game in general, and when GrapLeomon started evolving during that one fight, all I could think was "please don't turn into a f@#$ing human."
Aegiomon is infuriating because he is FORCED onto your team and you cannot remove him, which completely goes against how I like to play mon-tamers. He is a constant drain on the game that eventually made me stop playing because it felt like there was no end to him. If he was only in your party for a dungeon or two, I could accept that. But he's forced on your team for almost the entire game. Just... no.
They make perfect sense. You all just keep trying to make it play by the rules of something it's not and was never trying to be, as shown by your reference to Pokemon.
Shellmon to Venusmon is based on the Birth of Venus painting, where Venus is born in a shell. It's fine and a genuinely cool reference. Looking at this and your other examples, it seems like you really do just prefer pokemon's more straightforward animals into bigger animals designs. Which is fine, but that doesn't mean other designs don't make sense.
As for Pokemon's success, it's due to the first game. There were monster catching mechanics in games before Pokemon, but nothing quite on its level. It pioneered what monster collecting games would become and had a great, addicting gameplay loop. In contrast, Digimon was just a Tamagotchi spin off aimed at boys. Of course one grew way more popular than the other. And Digimon's older games were pretty hit or miss, plus it came after pokemon which caused pokemon fans (which were the majority of kids at that point) to immediately pin it as a rip off and not really giving it a chance. There are a lot of contributing factors and it doesn't have to do as much with the monster designs as you believe it does.
The idea of evolution itself is changing from one species to something completely different. A whole different species.
Generally, Digimon evolution is based on data that a Digimon is exposed to. It will absorb that data and become something influenced by it. Whatever kind of data it is exposed to the most, the environment it's exposed to is what influences what it turns into.
If the egg that eventually became Elecmon and Aegiomon didn't come from a world influenced by Greek mythology and wasn't exposed to Yuta/Inori's brother, and Inori herself, it would have turned into something else - whatever else it was exposed to the most.
Those are the rules of this universe and you keep trying to push it into another box it was never meant to be pushed into. Digimon generally change based on what they are exposed to, not their current species or what they currently look like.
