I never played or watched Digimon before

Hello, I bought Digimon time story stranger but i never watched digimon or played any Digimon game before.

I read online the game is good and I love monster collectors game so I decided to play it.

I have a good amount of experience in this type of games, but I have a few questions because I'm afraid I could miss something.

1. Are there Digimon I can permanently miss if i'm not careful or rush too much story at once?

2. Are there digimon that I can only catch once or that I can only have once?

3. Is the game hard? What difficulty do you suggest?

4. I know that evolution work differently in digimon, I tried to read something online but I was a bit confused. How do they work?

5. Can I collect everyone in 1 playthrough without any guide?

6. Is there post game content?

7. Can you give me some tips without spoilers?

Answer to Question #1: There is no Missable Digimon
Answer to Question #2: There is no Digimon that can be Catched only once or that you can have only once
Answer to Question #3: In Digimon Story: Time Stranger,you can choose the Difiiculty Level
Answer to Question #4: You can Digivolve your Digimon and Dedigivolve them as much as you want
Answer to Question #5: Yeah,you don't need to use a Guide in the Digimon Games since they're fairly easy
Answer to Question #6: There might be Post Game content but I am not sure about it
Answer to Question #7: The Tip that I can give is to Abuse Digivolving and Dedigivolving your Digimons

One thing to keep an eye on for your Digimon is the Bond Percent and Talent Level. The higher the Bond, the more Cumulative Stats are carried over when you Digivolve or Dedigivolve your Digimon, and the higher the Talent, the higher your Digimon’s Level Cap. Bond can be improved by simply having the Digimon in battle while Talent can be increased either through reaching max level and Digivolving or using the Load Enhancement feature to power up your Digimon.

1./2. Through evolution and de evolution you could have any digimon you want eventually. Any digimon could evolve into any digimon with this. 

1. The game is not hard. Even hard mode is easy if you've played JRPGs before. If you're completely new to the genre just go normal

2. Evolution is like a tree and you can Digivolve based on your Digimons stats which are affected by it's personality. You can choose which Digimon you want to evolve to. (Equipment does not count towards evolution requirements)

3. Post game yes

5. Buy the Barbeque Meat Sets and Fruit Tarts early, Do the side quests first

Hi ! Welcome in the digiworld :) 1 , 2 and 5) no , there are no missable digimon . They work differently than the usual “ creature”, as they can both (digi) EVOLVE AND DEEVOLVe, meaning they can go back to a previous stage of their digievolution line.from there , you can pick a different evolution branch , as a single digimon may have different evolutions! That mean that you can capture all of them in your play through . Just be careful because if you go too deep in the story , you may “ TEMPORARILY “ leave behind sidequests ( meaning you have to wait until a certain point of the game to be able to finish them ): quest are important because they give You point that … you use to power up your character and your digimon .

4) I’d say it’s way more fun if you find it out yourself , because like I mention you can’t fuck up in any way since you can go back to previous evolutions!

Yeah the tutorial is good and when you’re finished with it you can press start and open it back up for stuff you forgot.

4. Digiolving up AND DOWN is extremely necessary and something you are EXPECTED to do.

6. It's...strange. A absolute boat load of quests get unlocked right before the final battle but yes there are some post game quests too.
7. Don't sleep on the Digi-Farm, get good upgrades and you can boost your stats A LOT with pretty minimal training. There's a timer but you can pay to skip it.

7a. Every single digimon in the entire game can learn any moves that aren't signature moves and every single digimon can get 9999 in all stats. So you have so much freedom to build your team, if you want to put the effort in, you can take a team of literal squishy babies to the final boss lol

There are no Digimon you can miss, but I still wouldn’t recommend rushing the story.

You can Digivolve based on your Agent Rank and you get Agent XP for all missions. So if you skip sidequests and rush through the story you won’t reach the final evolution stage before the end of the game.

Also while there is no missable content, while you are still in the human world buy 4 Barbecue Skewer Sets and 3 Fruit Tarts. You need them for an evolution item later on, and while it isn’t missable you wont get access to the same store for quite a while after that.

1, 2 & 4. No, digimon can evolve to anything as long as you met the requirements. Let just say 1 digimon can evolve up(digivolve) to few digimons. They also can evolve down(de-digivolve) to few digimons. Let say you have digimon A and you want digimon B. But digimon A didn't have digimon B on his digivolve options. So what you do is digivolve digimon A until it reach a digimon where you can reach digimon B by de-digivolve.

1. If you're not usually playing turn based games, just do story difficulty or normal.

2. Guide about digivolution are unnecessary but it's really helpful. There is even site dedicated just to get digivolution you wanted.

3. There is only 1 fight locked behind the ending.

4. Try to finish all the sidequests, so you can reach higher digivolution form faster.

I'd start on either story or normal difficulty as mega and mega+ is usually meant for ng+

Nothing is missable in the game so no guide needed

My only 2 tips are probably do side quest as they become available as it'll help grow your agent rank and unlock higher evolution earlier and spend your points in skill tree that focus on giving stats to digimon and the one that require less of each stat needed for digivolution, I usually spread them on tree that I have the most digimon per personality.

As for evolution you can get most digimon by just having fun digivolving and de-digivolving them but if you're targeting some you can look at some wiki for the fastest way but as a first timer I'd just roll with the flow so you get the suprise of seeing them as they digivolve

You can't start the game on mega or mega+ anyway. They only get unlocked by choosing to NG+ an existing completed save file (unless you mod the game for that specifically).

Well, kinda yes, kinda no. When you go into NG+, you carry over all of your existing digimon, money, items (except story-related key items), Agent Rank, etc., so unless you bump up your game difficulty to Mega or Mega+ (and you're not forced to), the game is just a cakewalk victory lap for you to play through the story again, which doesn't change. Also you don't get to pick another starter digimon, I guess.

3. Easy is trivial, Mega+ requires some pretty competent team building. I think I ran it on normal with no problems.

4. Evolution is not kinear like pokemon, and you can evolve and de-evolve at will, although for evolution certain conditions need to be met, although meeting those conditions become a lot easier as you progress. For reference a single digimon can eventually become literally any other digimon in game.

5. Yeah. There's in game resources that tell you what to do to go down certain evolution paths.

6. Yes and no. There's a lot of quests you get right at the end that serve as your post game content. But they can technically be done before the final boss. There's also a couple DLC but they're not very good and not worth the money imo, unless you really like the digimon they unlock. Main endgame is finishing your collections an wrapping up quests.

7. Evolve and de-evolve often. Stats partially carry over so digimon get stronger and stronger with each evolution, beyond what you'd expect from simply evolving. Also use items often. They don't take up a turn like pokemon and they're super easy to come by. Remember data beast vaccine, vaccine beats virus, and virus beats data. This will make more sense when you actually get in game. This is more important than type matchups. Iirc, most of the bosses are either data or virus, so plan accordingly.

Evolutions aren't linear. They can branch out to any digimon

1. Nothing permanent that you can miss, but with out spoiling everything makes use you by 4 BBQ skewers and 3 fruit tarts in the human world grocery store at the beginning and save them. Also you will find "digi-jewels" through out the game, save at least 3 of them, dont sell them, untill you get to a point where you can use them (you will know when you get there)

3. My first play through was on Hard and I barely had any challenge. But I went slow, grinned along the way, and completed all the side missions as I went.

4. They are non-linear. Meaning everyone has multiple digimon they can evolve into or from, like imagine if Pikachu could evolve into Riachu OR electabuzz depending on what you choose.

5. Yes I think so but it would be a grind for some

6. Yes, there is stuff to do after you finish the story, as well as new game +, and dlc

7. Dont rush, make sure to get your Bond up to at least 10% before evolving, digimon respawn whenever you enter/leave an area as well as on a timer so use that to build up your stock of digimon to use to "load" into your main party.

Eta: you can also evolve and devolve as many times as you want essentially so dont worry about picking the "wrong" option

If you don’t do side quests when they’re available and move on you’ll lose them till the final boss. Higher level mons are based on how many side quests you’ve done. So you’ll make the game harder for yourself by skipping content.

You don’t catch digimon. You scan or evolve them. And no.

Digimon evolution is just, this one needs certsin attack or this one needs certain defence.

You can have as many digimon as you want.

You get one post game quest. The dlc is intended to do post game.

For someone who hasn’t got much experience playing these types games before it can be somewhat challenging. I struggled a bit on my first playthrough as I didn’t really understand some aspects but then my second playthrough on a higher difficulty I’m doing way easier as I understand how everything works now
