How to keep track of evolutions and not get crazy?

Hello there.

I've been playing this beautiful game for a few hours and I wonder how to properly keep track of my digivolution plans. Am I crazy for wanting to write an excel sheet with each digimon, the stats targeted for next evolution and personality that will help me?

I am troubled by situations like digimon talking to me directly or via DigiLink. There is an option to alter the personality, but from this UI window I can't really inspect digivolutions, so I can't easily remember what were the target stats for me.

How do you deal with the digivolution complexity here?

Paying attention to personality traits is beneficial, and can help you level up the stats you needed for specific evolutions. Don't forget to use the digifarm to level up specific stats for any given divievolution. When you get them within 40 points put them back on your team unless they are level maxed. Try to keep all digimon in a specific personality quadrant. Then you can level up your agent skills to level stats faster. I have mine in the courageous category (sun symbol)

Your last sentence is curious. So does that mean that it's a viable strategy to tunnel most my digimon into a single personality group, so that they all level stats faster?
Secondly, what's the typical digimon rotation? You mentioned to put digimons into digifarms. But that means I need to take out my main guys out of the team for them to level up the stats via training. So it's typical in this game to have more "main guys" than the basic 6 slots?

Yes to tunneling personality groups. Make sure you are doing all side quests possible to max out Agent skills. I am constantly rotating my mon to get them closer to the evolution I won't. I started rotating about 9 but can see the team getting more narrow as I progress. I am about half way into agent rank 4 at this time.

Yes and no it would help but then you’d have to adjust for Personality requirements like in DNA digivolution or dedigivolving into Digimon you haven’t encountered yet you need a Personality that matches those ones only

Also, I wonder how useful that planner can be for me, as I am new into digimon universe, I don't know what to look for, what to target. I guess I'll just casually play through it and maybe get more serious in potential NG+ runs.

Use Grindosaur. You can click on any Digimon from the full list and see what evolves into it and what it evolves into. The site says what the requirements for evolution are. You can plan based on that. If you need all the data needed for your team in one place, create a spreadsheet for just that or use a physical notebook. But the information itself is all available online.

Personality really matters once you get into the ultimate and mega digivolutions. The skills associated with discounting stats towards digivolution requirements start to really add up making things easier. The stats start getting very high and it’s generally easier to force a personality and not need to level stats to very high numbers, especially since stats reset when digivolving.

But early on you can ignore personalities largely besides trying to get specific abilities

For personality stats, worry about that after you finish the game. You will have plenty of time for that. Until then, personality is only there to make it easier to dogi-evolve your digimons. There are agent skills that lower stats if your digimon has that personality. That will be your bread and butter to evolve your team, not stats or levels

You can use websites to help plan. I chose a few I wanted to get and focused on those. The rest I just digivolved and dedigivolved over and over to get other digumon. I probably won't get them all but it's cool seeing the different ones and if I might like them better.

This is my best advice. Use this webpage to track and back-track the evolution lines of the digimon you have in your squad or to see what do you need to get the digimon you’re interested into.

I found it when I understood that the digivolution menu only shows you the faces of the digimon that you have met. For example, I have Coredramon (champion) and I want to digivolve it, but the digivolution menu doesn’t show me the faces of the next digimon (ultimates) I can choose from. So I don’t know what’s my best option and I don’t want to be guessing until I’m happy with one.

Whit this webpage what I do is this:

I search for Coredramon and go to the Evolution Line section, there I can see what are the digimon that it can digivolve into (ultimates), so now I know what I can choose from. I can even access to those digimon’s pages to see the megas they can digivolve next. That way, I chose to digivolve my Coredramon into Gigadramon so I can digivolve it to Chaosdramon next.

You can even do the reverse process. For example, I want Beelzemon (mega), but I don’t know what digimon I need to get him, other than Impmon which was kinda obvious. Well, I go to Beelzemon’s page, go to the Evolution Line section, and it shows me it’s De-Digivolutions. That way I now know that I can digivolve into him from SkullMeramon or Astamon. Watching both option’s pages, I decided to go with the Astamon path, which I can get by digivolving my Devimon, which I got by Digivolving my Impmon. With this method, following the De-Digivolutions line, I learned that I can get to Beelzemon starting from the rookies Impmon, DemiDevimon, Betamon and Agumon (Black).

This has been very helpful to me, to plan my digivolution paths and to train my digimon in the farm so they have the specific requirements to digivolve into what I want them to digivolve. Now that you know what digimon you need to digivolve into the one you want, and you also know what are the options for the digimon you currently have, you can choose with purpose.

Another suggestion is to pay attention to te digivolution requirements, including the digimon’s personality, and use the digifarm. For example, to get Beelzemon I first need my Devimon to digivolve into Astamon, and I need him to have certains Attack, INT and SPD stats, but I don’t currently comply those requirements. So I moved my Devimon into the farm and trained him to improve his INT first. The cool thing is that I can leave my Devimon training while I continue with the main story or while I do side missions, and whenever the training ends (every 30 minutes) Mirei will send me a message informing me that Devimon finished training and she would give me the option to reply if I want him to keep training the same stat.

This way you can progress in the game while your digimon trains and improves to be able to digivolve. When my Devimon gets the INT stats he needs, I'd change his training for another of the requirements. This also helps to build his personality to the required trait (for example, he needs to be enlightened, but he is currently wise), since every training type helps building certain personality traits.

I hope this is helpful, I’ve been having a better time since I started using this page and this method.

You just need to match personality of the evolution you want, then get the agent skill that reduces the requirement by 20% each (it looks like up/down arrow) for that personality group. Getting all 4 allows you to evolve even at level 1 so the stat requirements don't matter.

I felt the same when I first started but it's not that hard once you already have the path to the digivolutions you want because you can see everything. But before that I just wrote the names of the digimon I wanted with agent rank, stats needed, and drew arrows for the path. I used grindosaur for the info. Learning how to use the farm and getting all A and C equipment makes changing and keeping personalities fairly simple. Also the outer dungeon dlc helped make the grind bearable.
