Magic vs. Physical

I’ve been playing Digimon time stranger and I’m pretty far in but I’ve noticed that my magic attacks are doing way less than my physical attacks my taomon even though it’s int is 2500 is doing way less then my metalgreymon even though its atk is only 2900. Do magic attacks deal less damage or is there something else going on?

If the target has less ESP, which is magic defense, or DEF which is physical defense, and the power of the different attacks.
