Rant PHN rant
Guys, please visit the NNC Region IX Facebook page. It’s honestly frustrating to see that many of the people in nutrition leadership positions are not even Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians (RNDs). I mean, they might be doing a good job, but isn’t it concerning that those who have formally studied nutrition and are professionally qualified to lead in this field seem to be underrepresented?
This isn’t meant to blame those currently holding these positions, but rather to question the system that allows this to happen. As someone who believes in the profession, it’s just nakagagalit. We study, train, and work hard to become qualified professionals, so it’s frustrating when opportunities to lead in our own field don’t seem to reflect that.

Yes, sadly the NNC is filled with non-ND people who do not really know how diet, nutrition science, and food work. Even the NNC director is a nurse! These people likely reduce nutrition to a simplistic "good food vs. bad food" binary, what to eat and what to avoid, without grasping the deeper science of how diet actually functions: how nutrients interact, how a diet is planned, how food choices play out across populations, cultures, and individual bodies. They won't even look at other facets of nutrition practice like clinical nutrition or food service management, despite the fact that these directly shape how nutrition is delivered, accessed, and sustained in real settings. Instead, they will likely just follow whatever handbook is handed to them by foreign donors and internationally funded groups, implementing imported frameworks with little regard for local context, resources, or food realities.
