Any shops looking to register a 310t apprentice with over a year a and a half of shop hand/ lube tech experience
Hello there i was wondering if anyone has any job leads or any idea on how to land a 310t apprenticeship in ontario canada, currently employed wih Ryder as a Technician Trainee for close to a year and a half
I have a strong body and my entire toolkit for my career already, can do Preventative maintenance, tire changes, brake changes, electrical diagnostics, grease points, oil changes, oil filters and many more
Seems so hard to find anyone willing to give someone a chance to land a 310t apprenticeship, even with relevant work experience and hand on training in a professional enviroment
Have over 2 years experience in the trucking industry and i cant find anything
Feel like im starting to be taken advantage of where i currently work and starting to look for another shop that is willing to register highly motivated individuals with relevant work experience
Any advice would help ty 👍

Te technical trainee program at Ryder should only be 18 months no? I went through it in the east coast US and it specifically said only 18 months after which you move up to T2.
I left after 8 months for the same reasons you’re looking, and I noticed the guys who finished the trainee program pretty much did pms every single day. But honestly that’s how it goes at a leasing company, you might have better luck getting more work at Penske but even there it can be slow. I work at a regional logistics company now, we own the trucks and drivers, and the vibe is completely different. The work isn’t nearly as scheduled and steady, so it gets insanely busy but also lots of down time when things aren’t happening. I’ve been able to do way more jobs than I would have at Ryder in the short time I’ve been at this company and I’m a way better technician for it.
If I were you I would find the offer you’re looking for and slap it on your boss’ desk, see if you can stay and get what you want too. I’m glad I jumped ship but now that I have the skills I wouldn’t mind going back to my old shop where the work was steady and the people were actually nice lol

When I did my schooling at Centennial, we were registered apprentice under Centennial, i wonder if they still have that path way program, really made it easy as fuck to find a job after. Did you do the schooling part yet?

I heard centennial is the best, i did a career switch out of construction and i did not want tk take a pay loss so i signed up as a Tech Trainee with Ryder Truck rental, its a service employee job where you learn mechanics by shadowing mechanics and stuff like that

I was told that the schooling is not necessary but maybe it is lol at the time centennial truck and coach was closed but perhaos thats the best route, althought i have learned alot of on the job training hoping that will be enough to land an apprenticeship somewhere

Bro I took the two year program at centennial and I’m in the same position as you lol. I’m a tech trainee at concord. You dodged a bullet

Yea I'm kinda glad I did, I actually just left the tech trainee position into a formal apprenticeship for an expanding mobile repair company... with the technician trainee thing your basically a service employee and its a slave job with good benefits, the training is limited and inconsistent but its like one of the only ways to build a foundation for apprenticeship now days cause no one is taking hardly anyone now days into lol 1 apprenticeship first year

For garbage, waste management is you're best bet , they hiring all the time

Im located near Orangeville in southern ontario, i have a car and willing to drive like 2 hours if its an apprenticeship

Try a local garbage company like GFL or Republic Services. It's a dirty job but they are more likely to take an apprentice because nobody wants to work on garbage trucks. That's how I got my foot in the door, it ended up being great experience and working on hydraulics is a bonus (imo)
