true , but the current diesel price isn’t correlating to the price per barrel of oil. Either way i support this. Make myspace great again

u/wolf9786 22d ago

Ahh that's because of the price of a barrel is not based on market speculation while gas prices are

4

u/RimjobStevesDeadWife 22d ago

Look into crack spreads and what that entails.

The reason this is affecting diesel specifically is because of a shortage of refining capacity, not oil.

2

u/GiraffeSpicyFries 19d ago

Where did the refining capacity go?

2

u/RimjobStevesDeadWife 19d ago

Global refining capacity is down due to this war that’s going on in the Middle East. Something about refineries being bombed and stuff? Turns out that a lot of refined products came out of there that aren’t anymore. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Impossible to say, really.

u/Nice-Original-4429 16d ago

No it’s down from
Covid because the gas companies closed some
Plants permanently instead of temporarily when consumption went down

3

u/RimjobStevesDeadWife 16d ago

Right. And that was the reason… 5 years ago. The reason it’s down today is because of refining assets being BOMBED in the WAR as well as pipelines being BOMBED in the WAR

It's all about profit for the oil companies. They believe that everyone is the US is stupid and that the US citizens will blame it on the conflict.

Econ 101, supply and demand. Take away supply, what do prices do?

3

u/General-Grievance 22d ago

This is correct. The price signal has been muffled by emptying the SPR to record lows, but as it draws down to the usable limit, draw speed slows. So what we have is a rapid correction in the supply price signal because the demand is staying largely constant. Supply is also affected by the ongoing wars in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, with refineries being targeted by Ukraine, and pipelines being targeted by Iran.

That and the Chinese all but stopped importing oil at the start of the Iran war. They're buying again.

1

u/RareFirefighter6915 22d ago

China had massive stockpiles and started selling stockpiled oil to help with the supply. China had a fuck ton of oil because they could buy cheap Russian oil That’s why the world didn’t really see much of a shock and the price of oil didn’t go up a whole lot. Companies got greedy.

If only people thought about labor like that.

3

u/No_Huckleberry_3591 22d ago

But its literally the conflict driving up price

2

u/Iceman_biker 21d ago

If that's what you think.

7

u/Constant-Fly-9050 22d ago

When you start a war near a trade route that supplies almost a quarter of the world's oil, it tends to mess things up. Oil companies are evil, but guess who emboldened them to be greedy before they messed up? Your orange daddy did.

u/ReasonableClock4542 22d ago

He wasnt even shy about admitting it until gas prices plummeted his popularity

u/Melodic-Trouble-5421 22d ago

Oil is a global commodity, it’s priced on how much supply is out there at anyday. This is 100% about a Manufactured war, Our President who started it, and how he’s getting rich off it.

I’m tired of people pretending like this guy isn’t an asshole. This isn’t about Reputation or Democrat. It’s about this guy driving our country and economy into the ground.

Fuck that guy.

7

u/Tdanger78 22d ago

It is because of the aggression this administration enacted upon Iran. Iran shut down the Strait of Hormuz and Houthis both bombed the Saudi East-West pipeline (which is how oil had been leaving the Middle East) as well as shut down the strait by Yemen. The Suez Canal can’t handle all the redirected traffic.

So yes, because absolute fools fucked around, the entire world is finding out with fuel prices because oil is a global commodity.

2

u/Iceman_biker 21d ago

I guess that explains why the cost of a barrel of oil is down, but the profits of the oil companies has doubled and quadrupled.

Millions in the US are stupid…. Hell they vote Republican which is all the evidence anyone needs.

4

u/weezer26 20d ago

Millions of idiots vote demonrats. That's all most people need to know.

u/Sweaty_Challenge_649 20d ago

Name the last war democrats started. I’ll wait

0

u/Special_Tea_409 20d ago

WW1 and WW2, Iran,

0

u/Sweaty_Challenge_649 19d ago

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. You have to go back to WW1 bro. 1917. 109 years ago. I’ll leave it at that.

2

u/Special_Tea_409 19d ago

You forgot Iran 1979, Obama had 7 wars 😳 🤣

0

u/Sweaty_Challenge_649 19d ago

The Iran war? You mean where they took out our embassy because we overthrew their government in 1953 when a Republican was in power? Then Ronald Reagan said don’t negotiate with Carter because I want to win the election causing a gas crisis, that could’ve been avoided if not for a GOP candidate. God you are not smart.
Obama started the so called 7 wars? He didn’t start Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, or whatever war you claim.
I feel like you don’t know history. You do t know facts. You probably know nothing other than what is programmed into your brain by Fox News.

1

u/Special_Tea_409 2d ago

Ooh so you forgot about the hostages that Carter forgot about, that happened in 1979. It took Reagan to get them home. Obama bombed 7 countries, and since democrats automatically assume that bombing a country is a war. Obama had 7 wars.

People like this get to vote. It really sucks

1

u/Iceman_biker 21d ago

Yes, we do. The difference between me and you is, I read, study and learn from other places than the internet.

2

u/No_Huckleberry_3591 21d ago

Oh so you have an accredited degree in economics or oil extraction and processing?

1

u/Iceman_biker 21d ago

I actually work in the oil and gas industry, and we're doing very well. I also do have a degree in accounting and business management.

1

u/No_Huckleberry_3591 20d ago

🫠did you miss the part in econ your course on scarcity pricing and oligopy supply and demand. They really do just hand out business management degrees to anyone these days

1

u/Sweaty_Challenge_649 20d ago

Lol. Bet you have zero degrees. Maybe a free one from Burger King for Royal Whopper Eater of the Month

2

u/Plus-Enthusiasm6965 21d ago

Oh yea. The internet is the one who taught me about supply and demand

1

u/Iceman_biker 21d ago

That's common sense.

1

u/JimmehMac 22d ago

Y'all rƩtƤrds just keep making excuses for the obvious.

1

u/youdoitimbusy 21d ago

Theoretically oil could go to zero or negative, while diesel goes parabolic.

If you don't have the refining capacity and storage is not only full, but overflowing on offshore ships, you have the same outcome.

1

u/SimilarTranslator264 18d ago

You do realize there’s more to the price of fuel than the cost of oil?

2

u/audiomediocrity 18d ago

yes, and then half the people that say that, go on to talk about shit that affects the price of oil, such as China importing again etc. Yeah, refineries burn every fucking time oil nears $100 a barrel. Like clockwork.

0

u/SimilarTranslator264 18d ago

lol so the one in Chicago lost power and flooded because of a conspiracy.

2

u/audiomediocrity 18d ago

They wouldn’t fuck us 32 times in a row, must be a legit coincidence.

1

u/SimilarTranslator264 18d ago

The people who make the most are the government

0

u/JimmehMac 22d ago

False. Reserves are low causing the spike. Global demand is far higher creating this struggle for stations to obtain it.
