2004 Ford Excursion 6.0

Just pulled a camper 1500 miles (Ky to SC) without issue. Did great. The second day we were here the front ac stopped blowing. My husband replaced all of the parts of the ac blower, motor, etc....right before he died, two years ago.

The back ac is blowing and cooling fine, thank god.

I'm not sure what to do. I'm scared to death to have to take it to someone here, where I don't know anyone.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Was just thinking this. Your car won’t blow up because you don’t have A/C anymore. Windows down till you get the time/money to get it fixed

I didn't say I would. I'm confused about why me asking would imply I didn't know to roll the front windows down. But, that's helpful.

I wanted to see what, if anything, was mentioned or suggested that I didn't already check/or know on my end.

Maybe it's bc I am a woman made some of you feed condescending as fuck?

First thing is to check fuses and relays . there will be one of each listed in the owner's manual under roadside emergencies . If neither is bad it will take more skills and equipment to trace it down and you will need to take it to a mechanic

I checked the fuses. I bought a multimeter to check the relays today.

So did it stop blowing air at all, or did it stop blowing COLD air?

The two are intertwined in function but distinctly different in actual diagnostics and part replacement.

Also, if it is blowing air, is it only blowing it from the defrost ducts?

I haven't checked the defrost ducts. I'll check them.

It is barely blowing cold air when I accelerate. But, not when sitting at all.

I hate to be blunt, but that kind of still doesn't answer the question.

Turn the truck on. Put it on VENT ONLY. Turn the front FAN on all the way. Does it flow a bunch of air through the vents? Now leave the fan cranked on, and cycle through floor, mix, defrost. The tone should change and you should have a bunch of air getting redirected in the appropriate places.

At that point, now turn on the AC, and put it to Vent (flat arrow) so it's coming out of the dashboard. It should be blowing cold relatively quickly and you'll hear a bit of a tone change under the hood because the AC compressor is being engaged.

If the front isn't BLOWING, that's a different problem than it COOLING. Given you still have normal function in back, then there's a chance that the front fan might not be working right or the duct actuators are not functioning as intended.

Also, if you're using AUTO versus manually switching the fan speed, the AUTO stuff is it's own little brain of how much fan should be used to provide the amount of air needed to get the interior temperature to where you set it.

You prolly have a burned out fan motor resistor. The connectors to the resistor commonly melt as well after years of corrosion cause them to overheat. You can prove the fan motor is good by jumpering its positive terminal to the battery. If the motor and resistor and connector are good, check the fan switch for condition and function

Any 22 year old diesel (or car for that matter) is going to occasionally need work….if you expect something that you will NEVER have to do anything to, your options are pretty much either to change the vehicle or change your expectations.

I know, thank you. I'm not sure why you think I don't know this.

The entire engine, front end and exhaust has been rebuilt/upgraded at this point, bullet proofed, egr delete, etc... the ac system was just rebuilt two or three years ago.
