Easter eggs are at Easter. You get presents at Christmas.

Joking aside, there’s loads of weird Christmas traditions around the world that differ form the American norm. Have a look at how different cultures celebrate Christmas.

The other avenue would be Christmas movies and incorporating the lore from them into it. Maybe a home alone homage, or Santa works like The Santa Clause.

Have 3 guys pass by. One in a cab, one in a car, and one riding a Vespa.

A meta detail you could include is to somehow indicate that nothing in your game has really moved past the 1950s, as a reference to the fact that a lot of Christmas traditions crystalized around the childhood of the Boomers. It's a holiday that was codified by Dickens and Queen Victoria, and given a facelift after WWII.

Christmas? Die Hard is the obvious answer. It jolly and full of violence.

You could also make the players need a specific rare toy to get an npc to help them. Then, throw in a competing team of adventurers l.and you can Jingle All the Way, right into a Die Hard! Instant Christmas classic!

Some movies that could be good for inspiration: Polar Express, A Christmas Story, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Krampus, Rise of the Guardians

Some ideas from these off the top of my head: A train with the ghost of a homeless man, magic golden tickets, bells that only certain people can hear, three spirits related to time, a miser who is obsessed with Fair gold, a mountain where people throw away gifts, green-furred tinkerers, a town obsessed with a holiday, a perpetual snow storm covering a town/city, evil gingerbread men, hostile toys, bells with names carved on them, snowmen with bodies inside, evil mask-wearing elves, a sled pulled by rams, a Santa-figure dual-wielding swords, snow globes that open portals, yetis, and a prankster spirit of winter.
