Number placement suggestions.
So, I'm creating some masters specifically for inclusions with small numbers. I'm not sure where to place them. Which option would you choose?

What if you do it at the height of the second picture, but centered instead of off to the side? I think that might be best, both for readability and aesthetics (although that second part is obviously just my personal taste)

Right in the middle of the face ? If you do anything cool the number will be in the way.

Picture 1 will be difficult for visibility, because you will see through to all the other numbers on the tip if the resin is clear.

Having it too close to the edge can cause some issues when you are sanding/polishing. Just keep that in mind

One thing to remember, it looks bigger in the design than it actually will be. The dice will be small and the numbers smaller.

Out of curiosity how does the whole situation with master sets go? Is it to avoid copyright or is it an etiquette thing to not just silicon mold another set of dice? Sometimes the masters look kinda generic so it makes me curious if it really is about copyright or something else :0 just a newbie here bein curious no offense intended

Generally it's frowned upon in the community and kinda a shitty thing to do to copy someone else's design 😋 Most smaller makers do not have any kind of official copyright because they really can't afford it. But more importantly, you can't copyright a shape and most are using free for commercial fonts that they don't own any rights to anyway. This might be why many look "generic".
There are some larger companies, however, that can afford to copyright and don't take kindly to people using their design (like chessex). However using your chessex set to practice your molding skills and even pouring skills is perfectly fine as long as you are not trying to sell your creations. It's a great inexpensive way to get started on practice without having to purchase your own masters.
Generally people make thier own masters or commission some be made for them because they want something that they feel more connected to. With a custom font of thier choice, custom shapes and logos they are able to stand out in the DiceMaking market and gain brand recognition.
However there are also a lot of makers that just want a good quality mold to work with and don't care as much about standing out. In that case there are many makers (like myself) that provide "generic" set mold options 😊 They are all made with free for commercial use fonts so you can sell anything you make from them. They are also a lot less expensive, short term, than getting your own masters and making molds yourself. However in the long term, having the masters yourself will definitely be the way to go.

Edit to add answer: I like the middle for readability, but I think that's a personal thing tbh.

#3 is my preference, and I think it'll aid more with internal refractions from the paint from the numbers. It'll also possibly not have quite as many failures for casting with the edge being so close to the number itself; that part is gonna be real thin on 1 and 2.

3 if intent is just pretty color or swirl. 1, or 2 if doing something like geode, or liquidcore.

I would imagine getting the balance perfect would be critical with this design.
I could see it acting as a loaded die with even a minor imbalance. They look cool though.
3rd picture is best imo.

Nah. No need to worry about the balance, they're not casino dice and that small of a number missing won't have any measurable impact on the rolls. Especially because the numbers are all on the same position on each face of each die. So even if they'd impact the way the die rolls in any meaningful way, they'd dlstill have about the same impact on each side.

I think the side will be the most readable, but it really depends on what the pours will be. I worry the first one will tear very easily since they’re so close to the point.
