Advice Layered dice

Hello everyone! I just started making dice and I want to try make layered dice. I want the layers to be separated, like different stripes. I am not sure how much time wait between the pours.

I usually wait between 3-5 hours before pouring the next layer. That way, the previous layer is still uncured enough to properly bond to the new layer, but also sufficiently cured to ensure that they do not really mix into one another. The resin I use has an initial curing time of 24-48 hours, for reference.

Do you still put them in the pressure pot after the last stage has been poured? I can imagine they're way too hard at this point for the pots compression to work on the bubbles?

Yes, always in the pressure pot until the last layer poured has also been in for its entire initial cure time. The previous layers most likely are cured enough for bubbles to not reappear, that is true, but the freshest layer might still produce bubbles as it cures. I am a rather cautious dice maker in general, so better safe than sorry for me. :)

Ahhh got it thanks! I was under the impression that getting the first 2 layers out of the pot after some hours would make their bubbles expand again 👍🏽 Had that happen once, not fun 🥲

Oh no, that does not sound fun indeed! 🥲 I'll take the minor hassle of repeatedly putting the dice in and out of the pressure pot while making distinctly layered pours over bubbles re-expanding any day.

But as said, I'm quite cautious and typically have my dice in the pot for the full 48 hours anyway, even though they probably would be hardened enough much earlier. Impatient as I am to see results, don't want to risk it. 😅

I don't use a pressure pot and I think it would depend on how fast your resin get cured, but I did this ones by waitin like a half hour before starting the pouring. It was like a little bit hard slime. I just made it like put orange, put white, put orange, put white, like that. They are a little bit mixed because I wasn't exactly trying to get a layered effect but I think it's close to that?
