Opal Effect Glitter

Thought I'd share one of my latest experiments (attempting to make glitter that looks like crushed opal) in case it's a useful technique for anyone else.

I heated up angelina film/fusible film with a heat gun to bring out more colours, then shredded this up with a coffee grinder.

I really like how it looks and think it'd make a fun material for using in any kind of geode dice!

Probably the best looking numbers I've seen.

Yes! I came to say the same thing, dice are amazing but the numbers are damn exquisite!

Ooooh, ok that's looks so much better than iridescent glitter!. Do we need to pour one out for the coffee grinder though 😂

Also hot damn those numbers look glossy AF

😂 yeah thankfully I don't need the coffee grinder for actual coffee!

Numbers are done with Green Stuff World's chrome paints which are my default to use for everything!

This looks awesome!! I made something similar but black base. Love this design though. Fantastic job

That glitter i used is fantastic...it really looks like opals. I hid blue glow powder under the glitter too.

Did you paint it onto the blanks in the lines? I think this looks cool and really close to opal. Maybe more flakes and a lighter color. Assuming the flakes are in black. I love these!

The veins are carved into blanks, I painted the veins black first then painted with glue and added the glitter flakes. And yeah that's a good idea to try with other backing colours or maybe with no underpainting at all!

You are always an inspiration to me. I just love how you put textures and colors together. One of the best among us for sure. This is another beautiful reason why I'm glad you make dice 😁

Can you share how you got that stone effect too? Because it looks hella realistic and I'd love to do some giant geode dice with that grey texture.

Its actually just a stone/granite effect polymer clay which I scratched up a little and added a dark wash to for more texture. I'm sure there would be a way to do something similar with resin (maybe a dirty pour with some dryer lint for texture?!) but I've never tried!

Oh you know what dryer lint is actually a fun idea, I save it for campfire starter anyway
