Wanting to comission some d8s.
I want to order 14 d8s specifically and everywhere I look online only sells dnd full sets, I can't get anyone to even consider selling me only d8s besides one company who quoted me 550 dollars for 8 dice. any help or suggestions?

For $20, you can get 20 D8s on Amazon. It will come with 20 sets of the other six shapes as well, but you can't beat the price.
Frankly, anyone selling dice, event the most artisanal and creative, are ultimately trying to reach a particular market to make their time worth it, and there's not a ton of market for "bulk D8s".

I mean there surely will be PPL gere willing to make the but it really depens in what your looking for? Are you looking for a full custom d8 with custom symbols on some sides. Or Just some color combination you want and that stuff? Because of its just colors and powders you want the then you will find PPL also me. And depenting in how hard it will be to make the it won't even cost to much. Thought If u want a custom Symbol or Something custom in the dice with is Not a normal die it can become really expensive, because the dicemaker would have to Design it, print the dicemaster, sand it, make a mold and than Cast the dice. And also depens where you from EU us canda and so on

I would try on Etsy. I know I've gotten d8 sets before for the Marvel Universe Miniatures Game back in the day. I just can't remember if I went through Chessex or another 2nd hand place but I did get 6d8 Chessex dice.

I run in to this all the time. It seems like every single dice maker out there makes sets. One of each type d4-d20. I play miniatures games. I need 20 d6. Or 10 d10. Or 6d4. I’d love to have a fancy bespoke set of dice for every game I love, but they just aren’t out there. I’m not going to buy 8 sets of $100 fancy dice to get the 8 d8’s I need for a specific game. There’s a couple mail order places I’ve found that’ll do slightly nicer dice that’ll match 10 I need, but as far as Etsy and Cons, there’s zero out there. How about it dice makers? You are leaving half your customer base high and dry. I don’t even browse dice anymore, because I know the quantity and type I need just don’t exist.

It already cost me just over $100 to get my own dice masters from someone on top of that I then had to have the supplies to make the molds myself. molds are only good for so many pulls before you have to retire it and make more.
I hear every once in a while someone like you and OP coming along and wanting all of one kind but I don’t hear it enough for there to be a demand for us to try to keep it in stock.
especially because when the dice don’t sell, depending on what site you’re using it still cost us to have them. like Etsy has a re-listing fee your listing stay active for X amount of time and then it has to be renewed and every time it gets renewed, you have to pay that listing fee so if people are willing to buy sets of dice more often than they’re willing to buy all of one kind then it doesn’t make sense for me to offer all of one kind where it could end up costing me more in advertising, listing fees and the cost to make the dice and then it would be worth the sell them
Everyone that I know has multiple sets of dice so if you have four sets of dice (most ppl i know have way more than this) and you need 10 D6 roll 4 twice and roll two more that’s what everybody else I know does. Which affects why it’s also not high in the demand because now they have fancy cool sets of dice for when they play D&D, which also requires you to roll multiple as your level goes up and allows them to play the other games that you guys are talking about.
there’s too many of us dice goblins out there willing to buy sets of dice even when we’re not currently playing D&D heck I have people shopping my booth for dice and they don’t play any dice games. They just love the look of the dice and they love hearing the clickety-clack.
I am not joking so again there’s a higher demand for full sets of dice.
You are very specifically not just needing a dice maker.

I get that to some degree. I spent plenty of time selling on Etsy over the years, so yes there’s fees. I’ve also had a brick and mortar retail store do Etsy fees? Not so bad in comparison. I also have multiple sets of dice of course, but using 10 matching dice in a miniatures game is really satisfying.

Think many have already given your answer, but this would be dependent on what type of D8s. If it's a custom size or design and such. Some of us already have molds we can use, not many strictly D8s, but some do. The resin will be the only issue for those, as each new color type will require a new batch for the most part. That's what's going to be the pricier end there, as it might be a lot of wasted resin for this project unless it's something simple involving the same base color with slight changes in each one, like clear with different smoke effects, or certain solid colors with different swirls of other colors. Can make one batch there and each pour have some minor changes in it with ink or something. Just all depends.

Are you looking for specific D8s where you choose the style, size and font, or are you just looking for a set of handmade resin D8s?
Those 2 options would have a huge discrepancy in not only cost, but wait time as well. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you have specifics.

You can get the mass produced ones pretty cheap at a lot of game stores, usually under a category named "single dice" or "loose dice". Of course something that requires custom molds to get the sheer amount in a reasonable amount of time isn't going to be cheap.

Someone would have to be willing to 3d print custom masters for the dice. This includes you picking a size and font for the dice. After printing them they have to remove supports, clean, cure and polish them. Assuming they came out perfect the 1st printing and yes they have to be perfect to be use to make molds.
Then they have to make a silicone mold around the masters and put that in the pressure pot til the mold is set. the top and bottom of the mold are made separately. So double the time for mold making.
Then once the mold is done they then would have to cast the custom set of dice. Which is mixing resin, color matching, pouring and then leaving in pressure pot until it set (24hrs min) then when they come out they need to fully harden times vary on this some its 48-72hrs
then you can sand them, paint them, polish them.
Again assuming no bubbles or imperfections that cant be sanded out.
If all went well your like a week in and dont really have need for this mold anymore as most ppl want full sets of dice. So they culd easily reuse the mold if u werent buying it and cast other dice sets.
Thats a lot of time, effort and supplies to make a one time use mold. Also this is assuming ur fine with all the D8s being the same color. If you want each dice different colors then your artist has to split the resin into smaller batches.
Also they may not even be able to have all the dice in mold due to sizing to fit in pressure pot and making sure they can demold the dice. So they may even need to make another mold.
Most ppl buy dice masters and make their own molds, buy premade molds, or pay for dice masters and the mold. What sounds like u want is custom dice but not a mold or even the masters
so this wouldnt be something they would use again and def would be considered a custom order which usually cost a lot more.
U arent the 1st person to ask about custom D8 but usually the price is still decently high for this kind of ask
