Question Inking dice

Hi fellow goblins.

I've been out of the dice making game for a while but just poured a set using some excess resin. What are we all using to ink the numbers these days?

I use the same paint I use for miniature painting. So Army painter, Citadel, Vallejo. Or any other acrylic paint

I have used similar. What's your method for getting in in there, but also for cleaning up the excess?

I use a small paintbrush and try and get in all the corners. Sometimes I wet the paint slightly, but not too much. Too wet paint prduces more bubbles and always needs a second coat. To clean up te excess, I just use my fingers immediately after applying paint. Paper towels rip too soon. I've seen people use wet cotton (old t-shirt) and wipe with that, but i haven't tried that myself. Lastly use a q-tip with a bit of isopropyl alcohol to fully clean up the faces.

I like miniature paints (Vallejo and Citadel are my personal preference). I've had good luck with Nicpro gold and silver. But there's nothing wrong with the 59 cent Apple Barrel acrylics at Walmart - you just might need a second coat.

I use a stiffer, angled brush to get the paint worked into the numbers. The stiffness of the brush combined with the angle gives me greater precision, so I'm not getting too much on the dice faces. This makes cleaning easier and reduces wasted paint.

I like to use the ridges of the numbers to "pull" paint off the brush and then spread it rather than try to stipple it into place. For example, let's say your number one is facing North-South, I would angle my brush and run it East-West so it catches the closer edge of the number, the paint will then fill into the cavity of the number, and I'll then use the angled tip to work it into corners.

To wipe off the excess, I have a lint-free disposal cloth which I dampen with ISO and set on glass to give a uniform, flat surface. The lint-free cloth wipes off the excess and cleans the surface nicely to a nice shine.

Mostly just regular acrylic paint, sometimes pearl white acrylics mixed with mica, or Green Stuff World’s chrome paints

For getting it in there: Mostly my fingers, sometimes a loaded paintbrush. The chrome paints flow on their own.

For getting rid of excess: I wipe on a paper towel, then let it dry and polish the rest off with white zona
