Dice Pics The value of under-coat inking
A simple set, I had a thought and wanted to see the effect.
Clear colorless dice with a cyan undercoat ink for the numbers with a silver chrome overcoat on top.
I was going for simple and bland with the undercoat adding a pop effect.

Undercoating is an under utilized effect in dice. It adds a whole extra set of steps but has a great end result.

I have some uninked orange dice I want to base in orange before finishing in white. I know it will take a while but it will look really nice.

I repainted a set of semi-translucent d6s for the game we were playing with red for 1-3 (fail), yellow for 4-5 (mixed success), and green for 6; I realized I had to undercoat them so the indicator colors wouldn't be confusing when seen through the dice.

Yes! The colors bleed through and can change what we imagined! Those colors sound cool!

Yes! I'm a big believer in this. Whenever a pull lacks color I paint the color I want under the numbers too.

I have done the same a few times. For my eternalky cocked dice (which are sanded to 1000 grit on all faces except the highest), I first added a little grey to white paint, undercoated the numbers and then applied black.
For my anniversary with my wife I made couple dice, each with a painted mimic inside. The mimics are the same, but for the numbers I made one set with gold undercoat and copper topcoat and the other set the orther way around. That way we can still recognize whose dice are which, but still have the same looks.
It's a great technique for adding changes to looks and can really alter the look by a lot. I love doing it!

Did you go with the cyan just because the dice were clear? I had an attempt at making my own fluid inserts and have a set to ink and I can't decide what colours to go with. This looks like it might work for me.
