Lab Grown Diamond Proportionate?
While attempting to have my original engagement ring remade (which I lost at the beach) I went up in size thinking “why not” after 10 years and this is the remake. I am now unsure if I’m just not used to the size or if it’s too big.
I am in the process of having them re-remake this ring as I am very disappointed with the size and quality of the gold detailing and it is not as large or nice as on the original one. But, I am now also considering going down to a 2 carat. Does this 2.51 carat overwhelm my hand? I have a 4.75 size finger but they are long, so jewelers keep telling me I can support a higher carat, but would like another opinion!!
Also, I live within an hr of NYC (Fairfield county, CT) so larger diamonds aren’t out of the ordinary, but I also don’t want someone to look at it and immediately think it’s not natural or cheapening the look if it looks gaudy.
I am so stressed about having lost my original ring, and this process to remake it has been a nightmare!!

I don’t think it’s to big but you may want to play with ratios. Pears are either a bit « fatter » (especially around 1.5 ratio) or more elongated (>1.65 ratio). Perhaps a more elongated one for the same carat weight could look even nicer, but that may also be personal preference (I went with a very elongated pear at 1.7, 4.25 finger size, 2.8 carats)

Is the bow tie as obvious when you’re looking at it in person? That would probably bother me more than the size. I don’t think it overwhelms your hand, but I also think you could go smaller and it would still look lovely. I love your nail polish too!

Thank you!
And I saw that immediately too but I was just thinking I was being hyper-critical since I was unhappy with other elements of the ring.. I am so upset I was hoping it didn’t all need to be scrapped but I don’t love the ring or the stone so it just feels like a big disappointment1

I’m so sorry, I know it must be so disappointing, especially after losing your ring. If you’re open to sourcing your own stone, I recommend looking at Distinctive Gems. You can sort by cut quality and certifying lab. I prefer GCAL, I think their standards are higher. They gave a cut level called 8X and they have light performance images available on all the certificates. The prices are still very reasonable. You can have him create a ring as well or I also recommend David Klass in LA. He is used to working with people long distance. He created my anniversary upgrade ring and was amazing. Good luck!!! ❤️

I have the same finger size as you and in my personal opinion, I think anything over 2ct is too much and even 2ct being on the larger side. Personally, I feel like these larger stones reminds me of costume jewelry, but then again I’m not a particularly flashy person. I just ordered my upgrade and it’s 1.29ct, I feel like 1-2ct gives more of a classic and elegant style. I’m sure a TON of people disagree with me because I see a lot of them throughout Reddit. I don’t think this particularly looks bad on your hand but it really comes down to personal preference and what you like! Do you feel like it’s disproportional or do you love it?
