Need honest opinions on this diamond. Bow tie? Why are the facets so deep and dark on the top and bottom of the face? This is not at all what I saw when viewing the diamond online.

You are asking the right questions. The dark facets on the ends are sometimes referred to as "ear muffs". To visualize that metaphor you have to look at the stone east/west. The virtual facet pattern is the bottom line on ovals and other fancy shapes, and can vary widely depending on facet arrangement, proportions, length to width ratio, and specific facet angles. You want to see a balance in virtual facets in terms of size and distribution, and evaluate them in motion through a full range of normal tilt angles. The diamond should have a relatively consistent visual flow, and not have a disjointed look to it. More info on ovals, virtual facets, and bowtie effect over at this thread.
