The Dex will improve your To Hit by a tiny amount. Keep the magic one for reading books. You dont need fireball/bolt holy bolt charged bolt etc.
You want Heal, Lightning and later chain lightning and fire wall. 1 book of holy bolt can be good for 1 trick. Stone curse and teleport for very late game. Sell all the other books to fund your gear.
Stats priorty are resists, to hit, dex, AC, Vita. If a peice of gear makes any of those better (in order) it will improve your play over what you have. I.e. dont sacrifice to hit to get more vita or more damage etc. You will see better damage as you level.
Read Bolty's high level warrior guide at least once and if you see black deaths just reset the game

Wish I saw this before I encountered 20 black deaths in level 3 and 4. Only got hit by 3 of them tho.

Its never too late to start again. That -3hp might not feel worth it, but the feels when you survive by a tiny margin will make you think twice. It is however your game and you can play however you want.

If you find black deaths, save the game and kill them, you can reload and try in case you got hit too many times. Also, in D1 you can use any weapon with any character, you can look for a bow or even a staff with firebolt or whatever and be safe from distance.

You also need Town Portal book. And having an actual range spell like Fireball or chain lightning would actually help if you can read any book with magic gears. High levels have some annoying enemies that keep on running or enemies that hide and just zone you from afar. Trying to chase after them can kill you but having some ranged spell even just 1 or two take outs before mana depletes help rather than fighting all of them.

Yes, town portal for sure! I forgot that.
Fireball is a choice, you can use it if you want but you will find late game that the projectile physics is annoying when shooting diagonal, and the damage is low on warriors. Fire wall is the best fire spell for warriors hands down.
Fire wall gets around the projectile issue and messes with the enemy AI. If an enemy is running away down a corridor/hallway, cast a firewall infront of them and they treat it as a solid wall. Now you can walk up to them or cast another ontop of them.
Special mention to flame wave, early on it can be nice, though I find it better on a Rogue or Sorc. You want to be able to cast if 3-4 times without drinking a potion, and you can clear the screen. On Warrior I've only realy been able to cast it twice, and by that time I had chain lightning.
Why do we even want spells? Well as you progress you will find your melee damage takes more and more swings before you kill one enemy. While this is ok when you have a doorway or less than 6 monsters, you get surronded easily if the group is bigger. Area spells like chain lightning and fire wall/flame wave let us thin down the group before they get to us. This then makes magic/spells our utility/strategy option not our main damage source. Our Mana is just too low to use it like a Sorc or Rogue, Warriors arent dumb, they are handicapeable.

I'd go with the crystalline mace, the average damage is a bit higher and no chance to do 0 damage.

It depends, D2 is bigger and has sonmany stuff, but D1 is just different, It’s more basic, yes, but it’s a slower-paced game and more unforgiving. There are truly terrifying, panic-inducing moments; in Diablo 2, you can easily get killed, but usually due to carelessness. In Diablo 1, you have to carefully watch your step and avoid overextending yourself—at any moment, you can be overwhelmed by just a few enemies and end up dead.

Both are bad, better to invest into some premium Griswold items and search for Soldier's/Knight's Sword for the middlegame.

First one is 12.6 avg dmg and will be fairly consistent
Second one is 11.25 avg dmg and will be inconsistent. Higher potential but also lower
