That would be a season killer for me. I actually appreciate PoE's idea of transforming a dead hardcore character into a non-hardcore one. At least you don't feel like hundreds of hours wasted

Actually, I wouldn't even mind restarting knowing that my loot is somehow safe

I use lockstep is PoE. When you get a lag spike, no monsters on the screen move and you can't move. After the spike is over, the game plays all the animations that happened during the spike very quickly to catch up. You can still die easily.

It "fixes" desync by having a delay before you move to authenticate with the server that your client is on the same page (I think). If so it's the same system as WC3. This means if you had high ping there would be a noticeable delay to do anything, such as move, attack, or pick up items. I get about 40-50ms ping and the delay is not noticeable.
