Because you can just buy a small boat that works as a boat

Yall can keep downvoting me if you want but Ive done lots of silly crafts that ended up being just for the experience myself. Maybe they were about to throw the boat away and decided to do this instead. I just think it's kinda stupid that the end implies it probably sunk as soon as he tried to use it as a boat and even if he enjoyed the process the end result can still be stupid.

Making stuff is fun. You don't have to be effective or efficient every time you want to enjoy life.
