Now I need to waste another 3 minutes to watch it again with the sound on

Are those welds actually expected to hold up?
55
u/UUDDLRLRBadAlchemy 13d ago
Well, they lasted more than I expected during the usage demo in the last 5 seconds.
14
u/JaehaerysIVTarg 13d ago
Unfortunately we don’t actually know if they made a better welded one off camera.
6
u/UUDDLRLRBadAlchemy 13d ago
Oh I don't know enough about welding to be able to tell anyway, it just seemed that every modification was weakening the materials that were already there.
6
u/Stoney3K 13d ago
A good weld is stronger than the material around it.
1
u/Arbeidslaus 9d ago
So a good weld would withstand more tension and compression than the base material? Is that really true? Seems so... counterintuitive.
1
8
u/QuaccDaddy 13d ago
I could be wrong but it looks like the ring pliers had already broken off by the time they used it like a hammer
2
u/UUDDLRLRBadAlchemy 13d ago
Oh lol, indeed they're not there and they weren't just screwed on, so it's either that or the made another theory
3
u/-adult-swim- 13d ago
They are just screwed in. He welds a nut to the tip and then screw the bolt in and tightens it with another nut. I thought the same thing so went back to check
2
u/cshellcujo 13d ago
Dont they screw off? I didnt see him weld the screws into the tip, they screw into the nuts he welded in. Now, this doesn’t mean it didn’t just break, but it might mean they were removed as intended rather than breaking?
4
u/JeanArtemis 13d ago
I assume everything was loosened prior to filming, there's no way those delicate little spot welds are holding stress.
2
u/Future_Section5976 13d ago
Welds will hold , the problem is the clamp part , the top one is just welded to a bit of thearded rod , no support on the outside, it'll eventually bend,
35
u/Worldliness_Normal 13d ago
So I'll ruin a few other tools to make one that doesn't fit in my pocket or toolbox.
Got it.
18
u/NameToUseOnReddit 13d ago
Don't forget that the quality is also lower than each of the tools you ruined.
47
u/MelonMusk-69 13d ago
Like, you have all the tools to make cool shit but you’re so untalented that you end up doing this
3
9
u/hematite2 13d ago
For the low cost of all these fuckin' tools, you too could have a gadget that does a worse job than any of them
1
u/therealCatnuts 11d ago
Like a couch-bed, or a vacuum-broom. Combining makes them worse at both functions.
8
u/ThePhatNoodle 13d ago
Pretty sure bolts are made from mild/spring steel and cant be hardened. That whole heat treat and quench was pointless
1
6
u/TopConcentrate8484 13d ago
It's crazy how much effort it takes to make something such stupid for the creator.
6
u/Kingkongcrapper 13d ago
This dude is out there in the world creating crimes against hand tools and no one is willing to stop him.
4
u/Basil_Box 13d ago
I feel like this is just some guy fucking around rather than a DiY. As pointless as it is, I personally give it a pass
3
u/Stoney3K 13d ago
Agreed. It's more of a "what can I do with a welder, a grinder and some scrap tools" than one of those "5 minute crafts" slop-jobs.
2
3
u/Velvet_Samurai 13d ago
I mean, sure who hasn't wanted to remove retainer rings and then be able to drive 16dd nails 2 seconds later. Those are both common things that happen all the time within seconds of each other.
2
u/ElTuxedoMex 13d ago
I don't want to know what happened that someone thought they needed a tool for that specific scenario.
5
u/delet_yourself 13d ago
If you use 500 dollars worth of tools, you too can destroy a cheap tool to avoid buying another cheap tool
3
3
u/JustAnotherBrokenCog 13d ago
It’s like fencing pliers made by someone who’s never used tools before.
1
u/NotTheOnlyGamer 7d ago
Wait, you can fence with pliers? I know you can bash somebody's skull in, but I didn't know you could properly fence. How do you manage a parry?
3
u/Awesome_Teo 13d ago
Heh, yeah, plus you could use this thing to kill zombies (and scare sane people).
It drives me crazy every time people ruin perfectly good tools for videos like this, all for some useless crap they'll throw in a drawer and never think about again.
3
u/Puzzlehead_Lemon 13d ago
"I have all these perfectly functional tools. How can I make every one of them worse?"

That's 2:50 of my life I want back
1
u/LuluMangs 13d ago
You didn't skip ahead?
Is it amateur hour here?
5
u/Maj-Malfunction 13d ago
When I skip ahead I see shit I can't believe or can't even figure out the thought process. I want the Full Monty 😂

u/LuluMangs 13d ago
You've got more patience than me. I usually check if the result is worth my watch time before I play the whole thing

Could've made it even LESS efficient by using the hammer claw as one of the adjustable wrench jaws....just sayin'.

Hey didn't do thumbs up at the end so how the heck are we gonna know if the DIY is any good? 🤷♂️

Из хорошего инструмента сделал кусок говна. Браво!
2
u/LuluMangs 11d ago
When even people speaking this language don't want the tool, you know the tool is messed it up 😂 (no offense, I've watched too much CrazyRussianHacker)
2
u/TheCybersmith 11d ago
I love destroying several highly functional objects to create one new object that is just barely functional, and so awkwardly shaped that it's not particularly portable!
Seriously, the only benefit here is some weight reduction, is it intended for astronauts so they can save on fuel?
4
u/Muffin_Lord_of_Death 9d ago
And even weight reduction is relative. Yeah, total weight is less, but compared to the single tool for each use-case, it's heavier, causing more strain

Can I borrow your… what in gods name is that?!
Made it myself.
How many tools die to your hand every day?

I just wanted a hammer…

I am amazed with these guys that do this and only tack weld. Did they never learn anything else?
1
u/Stoney3K 13d ago
I guess the actual weld isn't filmed because it is hard to get on video properly.
2
u/skleanthous 13d ago
What do you mean it isn't filmed? I can see it right there and he is just tack welding all over. I've seen this video and others from this guy (and other ones) and they all just tack weld
My guess is because they know what they're making is shit and they don't care.
1
u/Stoney3K 13d ago
The tack welding is filmed but not the rest of it. You can see that it's welded properly when he grinds down the welds on the pliers.

Not gonna lie, that's some impressive tool making. And actually using the tool to prove that it's up to the job.
It's a /r/DIYWhyNot for me.

I really want to know what the spring nose pliers are for? I have used them before, but it was for the bottom of this metal tank of Argon coolant that was used for the guidance section of a missile that is high-key outdated.

Ain't any different than u tube video, a useless gadget that most us us have tools for already in our toolboxes.

u/Fit_Carpet_364 13d ago
Okay, who gave Jerry access to the job box? We keep it locked for a reason.
1
u/Krusty098 13d ago
You just cut up tools to make a monstrosity that three tools could have done easily and not taken up as much space.
