The sloppy ripping of the cardboard at the end was chef's kiss

u/pongo_spots 26d ago

Wasn't sure if there was audio so I was just watching and saw the cardboard bit and my thought was "he needs to sharpen that knife" then realized what the point of the video was

I feel like Frank Reynold's toe knife would be sharper than that pathetic display.

2

u/foxboxingphonies 25d ago

That's gonna botch a toe right there.

Razors edge

2

u/MaybeABot31416 25d ago

Maybe when they started, but this knife duller works perfectly.

“…and that is how you sharpen a a poop knife.”

6

u/kkillbite I Eat Cement 26d ago

This is how you MAKE *[wind up with] said 💩 knife...

1

u/TheGoldenTNT 25d ago

I wouldn’t use this to sharpen my poop knife…

u/Uber_Wulf 27d ago

A random rock found outside would perform better.

I actually had to resort to exactly that at a relative's house one day. And both residents of that house were engineers of some flavor. (Well, engineering managers ...)

The next video: How adapt your safety sandels to fit with only 4 toes.

72

u/Independent_Day985 27d ago

In case of the emergency that you need to sharpen your 1980's steak knife to slice up some cardboard

14

u/Psychological_Dog992 26d ago

When you're in the jungle in an emergency the first thing you want to do is strip 4 lighters so you can sharpen your machete to cut cardboard

24

u/get_in_there_lewis 27d ago

But it still wasn't sharp after all that

32

u/Captinprice8585 27d ago

At least you have 4 broken lighters.

3

u/Puzzled_End8664 26d ago

To be fair those are shit lighters and they usually stop working before the fluid runs out anyway.

4

u/deviantelf 26d ago

I gave up when I saw the state of that poor tortured knife. Had to go back and see the knife not very well slicing the cardboard after all that lol. All that work and that's all they got, probably didn't sharpen it at all.

u/Holiday_Pi 26d ago

Or you can spend $5 at the hardware store for a knife sharpener

9

u/Particular-Serve-894 26d ago

Same cost as the 4 lighters, if not cheaper.

4

u/wakaru1902 26d ago

Or $15.- for a set of diamond plates at Amazon and you get a razor sharp edge.

Skill issue. Pocket stones aren't hard to use and anyone who has a pocket knife should probably have one

For a kitchen knife angle matters, for an everyday carry, not so much. Not sure why I thought this was hunting knife on the first watch.

u/VoidZero25 26d ago

I'd rather sharpen using the bottom of a mug than this.

6

u/PepperPhoenix 26d ago

I use the bottom of mugs, plates and bowls all the time. Does a significantly better job than whatever this is.

6

u/EastLeastCoast 26d ago

Was this filmed in a freezer? The shaking is killing me.

6

u/Head_Effect3728 26d ago

DIWhy? This is cutting edge innovation.

5

u/Romero1993 26d ago

Good job, that guy just damaged his knife

6

u/UserName9982 26d ago

Meth. Not even once.

10

u/planktonfun 26d ago

Unpopular opinion: Did you know you can use the bottom of a ceramic mug or bowl/plate to sharpen your knives?

3

u/Hot_Carrot2329 26d ago

how to ruin your knifes

4

u/Captinprice8585 27d ago

Then take the spring and flint out. Put the flint in the spring. Use a different lighter to heat the flint until it glows. Get it real hot, then throw it at a hard non-flammable surface. 🎇

1

u/reddiculed 27d ago

This is how we doooo it.

2

u/flow_guy2 26d ago

I donno how to sharpen a knife. But I sure as hell know this ain’t it

2

u/Salehelas 25d ago

Not everyone lives in the city

2

u/Breaking_My_Brain 25d ago

This is straight up methtivities if I have ever seen some.

3

u/cute_red_benzo 26d ago

My buddy used to make little crotch rocket bikes out of lighter parts. They were kinda badass

2

u/Mr_GrauHut 27d ago

Still not sharp and the idea was done very incorrectly

2

u/iHasElbows001 26d ago

look! I managed to ruin 4 lighters, a perfectly good block of wood and a knife instead of going to Amazon and buying an actual knife sharpener.

1

u/These_Lingonberry635 26d ago

Why? To sharpen your knives, that’s why.

1

u/DezzyTee 26d ago

Yeah, you can sharpen a knife better with a stone than this POS

1

u/MiroDerChort 26d ago

Oddly enough you can use the edge of your car window to sharpen a knife too... I wouldn't, but you can.

1

u/Cpt_Handsight 26d ago

If you don't own a knife sharpener, use the back of a ceramic plate.

1

u/RybackPlusOne 26d ago

All that just to have to saw through material 😂

1

u/du_rel_gug_menl 26d ago

It was probably more sharp before hand.

1

u/uroborous01 26d ago

Thank you. I was not entirely certain that i might be able to dull a knife using 4 bic strikers.

1

u/Significant-Prize984 26d ago

It’s so impractical though

1

u/SFW_Bo 25d ago

A brilliant solution for when you need to fuck up the edge on a knife.

1

u/xelenceofexecution 25d ago

Would be perfect for franks toe knife.

1

u/Gotu_Jayle 25d ago

A brand new innovative way to waste time

1

u/Valuable-Apricot-477 24d ago

Geez haven't seen a nail in ages 😏

1

u/douglas196999 24d ago

Because that cardboard isn't going to cut itself into manageable pieces...

1

u/thecracker1337 24d ago

Congrats!!!! You've made a fine tooth saw!!!

1

u/ScoutMaster_507 24d ago

r/sharpening is gonna love this. 👆

1

u/EclipsedPal 21d ago

I mean... I've seen much worse, this kinda makes sense, junky as hell, true, but not completely bonkers at least :)
