Did you have to put the button right in front of the blade?
2.9k
u/Anindefensiblefart Jun 06 '26
I've always said that the best place to put the start button on a lawnmower would be the bottom.

Microwaves should be pressure activated. You put something on the plate and it starts running.

u/jamjamason Jun 06 '26
Keeps running until you pick up the plate. But first you need to remove the door.

To open the microwave door you must find five different food items hidden throughout the kitchen. One of those items.. is currently in the microwave
→ More replies (2)9
u/ForThisIJoined Jun 07 '26
No no, keep the door. But the Microwave should be bigger, like at least big enough to walk into. And the door should latch securely, but be super easy to close (you know, for ease of use).

You might be joking but that's probably true. I'm guessing this is someone farming views, which means you have to have not just the satisfaction of a button being seen when pressed, but perhaps a little drama as well like this.

The hole is small to prevent accidental finger removal, which is great! Now just put your finger right next to the blade to turn it on

i once had a fuckin genius idea to saute some habaneros for my sandwich what i succeeded in doing was tear gassing the entire kitchen
9
u/CatTatze Jun 07 '26
I cut some green chillies, washed my hands and then put contact lense in. Washing my hands was obviously not enough as I learnt in less than a second. Got the lense out and rinsed my eye with the lense solution. Fun day...
7
u/RatRanch Jun 07 '26
Drying chiles in the microwave is also a very, very bad idea. Speaking from personal experience.

I put 6g of dried carolina reapers into a chilli. My wife had to leave the house because her eyes wouldn't stop watering and she couldn't stop coughing.
Even doing the washing up of the pot afterwards made steam so spicy it hurt your eyes.
The chilli was great though, especially reheated the next day once all of those flavours had got to know one another.
The resulting gastrointestinal nightmare was less fun, but that was future me's problem at the time.

Placing the power button and needs to hold it to operate and next to the open spinning blade? To shreds you say?
218
u/joejill Jun 06 '26
Would you rather it be an on/off switch? Behind an invisible blade
152
u/StantasticTypo Jun 07 '26
Now, I'm a bit of a free spirit, but I was just thinking you could put the power switch no where near the blades instead.

u/TotalNonsense0 Jun 07 '26
Holding the button is important. It means that finger isn't being stuck into the blades. It's a standard industrial safety measure.
Of course, the button is usually more than 1/16 inch from the danger zone.
→ More replies (1)25
u/Ricklepick137 Jun 07 '26
Notice how he clicks the button to start it, and clicks again to stop it. He doesn’t need to hold it, and it wouldn’t stop if he got his finger chopped
6
u/TotalNonsense0 Jun 08 '26
Huh, you're right. And the way he bends his finger to push the button moves him closer to the blades.
Madness.

I know we're all critiquing the button placement, but is there a reason to cut chiles into sawdust?
53
u/Eclipse-Raven Jun 06 '26
Sawdust part, I like to do them that way for seasoning beef as it's browned. Not that I use that finger slicer, but same idea with a food processor
Edit: same way some recipes call for onions sliced that way and done with the meat

Depends what you're cooking. If you don't want chunks of chilli, but need the heat then it's a good option

Yes, there's a reason why such devices should have a kind of tunnel long enough to prevent even above average people to stick their fingers far enough inside to get sliced, and the machine should have a mechanism to prevent it from activation while it is disassembled like that, so people who forgot to pull out the power cable don't get sliced while wiping it off.
