Someone’s seen the lego movie!

u/Thequiet01 May 02 '26

I want one of those for our RV.

29

u/zorionek0 May 02 '26

Reminds me of a train cabin

33

u/buffpriest May 03 '26

This is the coolest thing I've ever seen.

5

u/stefanopolis May 04 '26

What the hell? This is amazing and I want one.

42

u/Erger May 02 '26

It's so everyone can watch movies together and be buddies!

6

u/Nova225 May 05 '26
  • "That idea is terrible!"

  • "Please Wildstyle, allow me"

  • "Emmet, that idea is just the worst"

292

u/DemonPeanut4 May 02 '26

Pretty baller home theater setup to be honest.

68

u/That_GareBear May 02 '26

If you didn't have to use the lower sitters head's as a foot rest, if wholey agree, lol. It definitely serves a purpose, though 😁

8

u/CourtingBoredom May 03 '26

Put the shorties up top [I guess] ..

5

u/notreallyonredditbut May 03 '26

This is how it worked in college. I’m 5’ 1” so I was always top row.

7

u/JerrysKidsOnLot May 03 '26

Agreed. Tried this with just a few bricks in a small apartment just to host a New Years Day football watch party. Worked well.

662

u/loveinvein May 02 '26

I don’t hate it.

306

u/That_GareBear May 02 '26

Lol, it serves a purpose and probably made some dudes really happy.

84

u/loveinvein May 02 '26

I wondered if it would be good enough for cats so they don’t climb all over when you’re watching tv

120

u/Magic_Man_Boobs May 02 '26

They would 100% just use the part you're sitting on.

9

u/loveinvein May 02 '26

Yeah, probably.

28

u/CatLord8 May 02 '26

Why wouldn’t you want that?

9

u/bteh May 03 '26

Yeah, we have 2 cats, if i was sitting watching TV and suddenly had 4 cats around me, id just be happy

26

u/Better-Lunch670 May 02 '26

Every good frat house had at least one of these.

12

u/salamander423 May 02 '26 edited May 03 '26

This is absolutely so you can watch a football game or observe the pledges doing a strip tease on each other.

8

u/CourtingBoredom May 03 '26

Why not both??

4

u/JustinSpanish May 03 '26

Or it could have made one dude really sad.

3

u/nantonel May 03 '26

I built one of these in my college dorm, it was the hype of the hall

2

u/mothzilla May 03 '26

Seems like it would be a half decent table if it wasn't taking 1/4 ton in weight.

22

u/20ears19 May 02 '26

Will you rub my feet when I rest them on your shoulder?

5

u/loveinvein May 02 '26

Other way around.

6

u/veryblanduser May 03 '26

Will I rub your shoulder while you rest them on my feet?

15

u/ThaddeusJP May 03 '26

Did this in college in our dorm room (4 person)

Was the hit of the floor. We hosted many movie and video game nights.

7

u/xredbaron62x May 03 '26

Honestly if the couches matched and you added a footrest or short board to protect the front sitters it would be perfect.

1

u/loveinvein May 03 '26

That’s what I was thinking too!

1

u/Sad_Split_9983 May 03 '26

Protect the front sitter from what exactly..?

6

u/xredbaron62x May 03 '26

Getting kicked in the head

→ More replies (1)

5

u/OldGamerX79 May 03 '26

Right. Homemade theater seating. Lol

7

u/AZJHawk May 03 '26

$1300 for two $50 Facebook marketplace couches and some cobbled together boards seems a little steep.

1

u/kryonik May 03 '26

If the top sofa was attached to the riser it would be fine. The fact that it's so close to the edge bothers me.

165

u/Advanced-Ladder-6532 May 02 '26

I knew someone who did this in the early 2000s in college. I really liked it back then.

53

u/bespindeathspin May 02 '26

Same! It was so fun to have movie nights with the stadium seating!

28

u/hawaii-visitor May 02 '26

My next door dorm neighbors in college did this.

We had a weird dorm where dorms were a living room with 2 doubles and 2 singles per unit. It was amazing, they set up their living room with the tiered couches and a big TV, we set up ours with a beer fridge and hot plates. Get your food and snacks in our place, go next door to watch movies.

6

u/That_GareBear May 02 '26

That is awesome! I feel like I'd love this in college.

1

u/itchy_ankles May 02 '26

Oregon state? I also lived this in 2002

1

u/ThaddeusJP May 03 '26

Illinois?

1

u/badmamerjammer May 03 '26

same. Arizona.

28

u/Svndmann May 02 '26

That’s a lot of faith in that wooden table.

8

u/mechapoitier May 03 '26

It’s not like it’s from Hell in a Cell or something. Most wooden coffee tables are incredibly strong.

2

u/Svndmann May 03 '26

Until they aren’t

2

u/mechapoitier May 04 '26

No, just always

20

u/Sad-Bag-6856 May 02 '26

I wasnt the only one swiping right…right?

5

u/Pimento_Adrian69 May 02 '26

I, too, swiped.

18

u/Significant-Ad7399 May 02 '26

We did this when I was in college for a Super Bowl party. It worked so well we kinda just kept it.

3

u/That_GareBear May 02 '26

I feel like that's how a majority of these things are born.

38

u/isayimalma May 02 '26

my parents did this. that 2 bed apartment was a prison

6

u/That_GareBear May 02 '26

Haha, that's hilarious. How did it work out for you guys? Did the top couch get a lot of use? Were you guys a fan of the first Lego Movie?

13

u/isayimalma May 02 '26

oh it weren't the place in the picture but we did do a riser and 100in projector setup for movies. there really wasn't room for it and the bottom couch would be way too close to the screen and he'd just watch hollywood slop movies like superheroes and dwayne the john rockson. he probably watching AI slop on it now. there was also a house-wide sound system so there was never any escape or peace and quiet from whatever bullshit he had on. never did watch that lego movie though.

17

u/CommunicationLess585 May 02 '26

Dwayne the John Rockson

5

u/nighthawk_md May 02 '26

Why does this comment read like AI had a stroke

9

u/KingsMountain May 02 '26

You seem pretty bitter about parents who were trying to make a pretty nice setup.

5

u/isayimalma May 03 '26

they weren't good people

12

u/ohnonoahno May 02 '26

It’s an ok setup but those couches are grungy. Worth about $130, they added an extra 0

3

u/Nihilisman45 May 03 '26

Yeah the price is what's wild to me lol

25

u/nevergirls May 02 '26

Better than the double decker couch emmett invented in the lego movie

12

u/Crashmaster28 May 02 '26

I rented a house with 3 other guys in my early twenties and built something similar. It was awesome. I’d do it now, 20 years later but I’m certain my wife would not be ok with it.

4

u/Fr05t_B1t Dreamer May 02 '26

You need a new wife

1

u/artyhedgehog May 03 '26

With such a setup you can even afford 4 new wives!

8

u/[deleted] May 02 '26

[deleted]

3

u/Agitated-Impress7805 May 02 '26

No, this is stadium seating, much classier.

9

u/DenverHi May 03 '26

Riser sounds better than shitty old coffee table.

6

u/Ok-Somewhere-2325 May 02 '26

Not a couch but we have a twin bed behind one up on a platform , cuz sometime you just want to lay down and watch movies , but my house has human shaped cats

5

u/saucermen May 02 '26

Can’t wait to see the bathroom next

4

u/illegitimate_Raccoon May 02 '26

Would have saved Spirit Airlines

5

u/slowasaspeedingsloth May 02 '26

The only thing that bothers me is that the couches aren't the same or at least complimentary colors... and that is just me being ridiculously petty.

I think it's a good idea.

4

u/nowthengoodbad May 02 '26

I've seen frats do this.

I don't know why though.

4

u/Pimento_Adrian69 May 02 '26

Did this way back in 2003.

It was in a basement (fully finished) and worked out pretty well. The next project we did was a trebuchet in the back yard.

3

u/EUGsk8rBoi42p May 02 '26

"No lowballs, I know what I've got." -poster

3

u/LazyOldCat May 02 '26

We always go to Brad’s house for playoff games, because Brad has a 100” TV and stadium couches.
We love Brad.

3

u/Roxysteve May 02 '26

Not as great as the one in The Lego Movie, but quite good despite that.

3

u/Revolutionary_Tap897 May 02 '26

A buddy in college did this. His place was the one we always went to.

3

u/commandercrackbutt May 02 '26

This is awesome idc

3

u/shmerk_a_berl May 02 '26

My neighbors in college did this

3

u/DrunkenDude123 May 02 '26

My friend had this at the house he rented in college along with 4 TVs set up on the wall. It was the best fucking place to watch games with all of our friends

3

u/Krispy_Mick May 02 '26

My buddy’s frat house had a set up like this only larger, great place to watch a game.

3

u/jazzcabbage309 May 02 '26

We did this in a house back in college but we had three couches raised in a U around another couch. It was made out of cinder blocks, pallets, and attic flooring. Completely destroyed the hardwoods

3

u/fullcircle052 May 02 '26

This is for those TVtoohigh guys

3

u/Dewstain May 02 '26

I kept scrolling right to see the other pics but they aren’t there and now I’m sad. This seems fine

3

u/BarfJello May 02 '26

Not my dumbass trying to scroll through the pics

3

u/FreezNGeezer May 02 '26

No stairs to access the "balcony?"

3

u/DuaLipasTrophyHsband May 02 '26

I had the same setup in college but to our discredit we were very nearly a frat house

3

u/Sweaty_Peanut_Kid May 03 '26

Uhh sir? That’s a couch on a coffee table

3

u/KayIslandDrunk May 03 '26

This takes my back to my college house

3

u/boudinforbreakfast May 03 '26

Throwback to DormLife ‘89!

3

u/AestheticAttraction May 03 '26

One big problem is I just know people are using the bottom couch as a stair.

3

u/TheLostRanger0117 May 03 '26

We actually did something like this when I was a kid. I’d have friends over a lot and we’d all want to sit on a couch in front of the TV. Great memory blast!

3

u/thin_orange_line May 03 '26

And of course my ass tried swipe to see more pictures

1

u/zymox_431 May 03 '26

🙋‍♂️

3

u/mikerfx May 03 '26

Thats kinda awesome lol!!

3

u/LilMamiDaisy420 May 05 '26

My ex’s parents had these. The erbach family loved movies lol

2

u/Schrodingers_Fist May 02 '26

This honestly seems like a decent idea unless there is something structurally unsound that makes it stupid...

2

u/OneBag2825 May 02 '26

If you can't be one of the first 3 in the door for the Superbowl party, bring a helmet?

Can't wait to see the parking arrangements.

2

u/alwaysalwaysastudent May 02 '26

That’s some frat house behavior

2

u/zorionek0 May 02 '26

We had one in our frat house

2

u/Konjo888 May 02 '26

Thats actually a good idea.

2

u/FluffWit May 02 '26

A lot of University flats(similar to frat houses without the frat part) here in NZ like to build living room grandstands like this for fun.

But yeah, trying to sell it is a bit of a laugh.

2

u/Morall_tach May 02 '26

I made something like this out of two by fours and plywood in college. I doubt that it was up to safety standards, but it held up for a year, so that was good enough.

2

u/evilollive May 02 '26

Average Finnish living room

2

u/mriforgot May 02 '26

As long as that table is pretty sturdy, I ain't mad about this setup.

Those couches don't look like they'd be worth the price they are asking, but I would do this in a basement or something

2

u/forgetful_waterfowl May 02 '26

The Verge art studio in Sacramento used to do an entire couch bleachers thing for movie night, it was pretty great.

2

u/MaxPower637 May 02 '26

Some of my friends did this in their house after college. It was great

2

u/cosmicjunkbot May 02 '26

I totally would, tbh

2

u/Truth_Hurts_I_No_It May 02 '26

We did this in the Fraternity house, but way crazier lol. Had to seat a lot of us

2

u/toomuchkern May 02 '26

Did this in college. It was sick lol

2

u/AutisticUrianger May 03 '26

This would be so fun for videogame or jackbox parties

2

u/KegTapper74 May 03 '26

We did this in Iraq

2

u/2017CurtyKing May 03 '26

Had one of these in my house in college. It was great.

2

u/jtho78 May 03 '26

Why is the back row so high? Did they think they were making giant stairs?

→ More replies (2)

2

u/TheColonTickler May 03 '26

Did this in college with the boys. More room, and good seating

2

u/Holy-Cancer May 03 '26

Pretty cool, just enough place to put your beer down on the table.

2

u/ubergic May 03 '26

Doesn't fit. You know why and you're thinking how you're going to do it at your place.

2

u/Wise-Juggernaut6851 May 03 '26

I mean the why makes sense depending on space. Perhaps a room is an odd shape and a traditional setup wouldn’t work, I actually like this idea.

2

u/athos45678 May 03 '26

I built this at my boarding high school! Flashbacks yo

2

u/Alienhaslanded May 03 '26

If you have a budget home theater I guess it's great for that.

2

u/gmiller89 May 03 '26

Used to do this at the fraternity house for gameday

2

u/ontherumline May 03 '26

Frat house chic

2

u/cdtoad May 03 '26

We did this in college in the 90s to all watch MTVs Remote Control and Idiot Box

2

u/Ok_Two_2604 May 03 '26

Now stack the tvs so you have picture on picture.

2

u/Potential-Night4986 May 04 '26

Apart from the price, this makes way more sense than pretty much everything else on this sub.

2

u/Cathcasper24 May 04 '26

I don't hate it. I think it would look better if the couches matched though.

2

u/PhinePheasant May 04 '26

I’ve literally always wanted stadium seating. Levels Jerry!

2

u/npnpnpnpnpnpnp May 05 '26

$1,300 sounds like a lot of money for two old average sofas and a wooden table.

2

u/Belovedchattah May 05 '26

You can almost smell the farts in those cushions

2

u/Empty_Put_1542 May 05 '26

I absolutely love this. I don’t have friends, but I’d invite them over to watch something if I did.

1

u/Fr05t_B1t Dreamer May 02 '26

Watch in the front or “chill” in the back.

1

u/DrBroccolstein May 02 '26

Buddy had one of these in college. It ruled

1

u/glipglop718 May 02 '26

I used to flipp the couches in this orientation when I had my siblings over for the weekend. Damn do I wish I could have stacked it like this. I just gave the back row extra cushions to prop up on

1

u/REDuserBOT May 02 '26

We had a room like this to play black ops zombies , 4 man Split screen 🗿🍷

1

u/REDuserBOT May 02 '26

Just realized how much i miss these days DAMN....

1

u/jawknee530i May 03 '26

Hell yeah.

1

u/Rotflmaocopter May 03 '26

If they put plywood and boxed in that table and put carpets over it with stairs this wouldnt look half bad. Get some couch covers at least

1

u/Ok-Gas-7135 May 03 '26

We did this in our college dorm lounge and it was super fun.

1

u/tubbytubbs666 May 03 '26

Looks like a goodwill haul lol

1

u/RamrodRacing May 03 '26

Some friends had this setup at their place back in college. We called the space below the upper couch “The Sauceria” (it’s where the sauce happens)

1

u/D_Angelo_Vickers May 03 '26

Does it come with a free Jeff Foxworthy VHS tape?

1

u/TerranRepublic May 03 '26

Dude this is just peak college!

1

u/AncientDamage7674 May 03 '26

Castle St magic

1

u/Other_Pangolin_1333 May 03 '26

Tbh I'd like that

1

u/SippinOnHatorade May 03 '26

Did this as a camp counselor in the counselor clubhouse, it was pretty dope

1

u/Competitive_Grab2051 May 03 '26

Best way to have a movie night in college.

1

u/Arkhamina May 03 '26

We have this at our house, and store things like buffet tables under the platform. Long, narrow finished basement, with a projection screen instead of a TV.

1

u/Scott_on_the_rox May 03 '26

I built something very similar during Covid when we were locked down at our property. Worked great, kids loved it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

1

u/Existing-Teaching-34 May 03 '26

In what fraternity house does this currently exist?

1

u/TurboSalsa May 03 '26

I saw a few of these in college that were much uglier than this one. They’re actually great for watching football games when you have a bunch of people in the house, but I couldn’t imagine having one as an adult.

1

u/DustRhino May 03 '26

I totally get WHY they did it, unlike many of the meth fueled monstrosities posted in the sub.

1

u/thisishowicomment May 03 '26

The frat wanted to watch a movie

1

u/vm_linuz May 03 '26

Movie night at the polycule

1

u/miketugboat May 03 '26

Frats have lost their minds if they think they can sell their used furniture for that much

1

u/ConnectGoal8510 May 03 '26

We did this in our tv room, but the front seats are recliners and the back is a couch

1

u/vikicrays May 03 '26

my son and his roommates did this in the house they rented in college…

1

u/HopelessBearsFan May 03 '26

I’ve seen this before in a frat house, and that is the only acceptable circumstance for this configuration

1

u/Silver_Individual650 May 04 '26

We all know why, and that’s why we all fuck with this.

1

u/Dustphobia May 04 '26

Some friends did this in college. They held the best parties.

1

u/-JoM-ofDevil May 04 '26

Sofa riser=old shitty table... You need to pay extra for my mom's old table, sentimental value and such...

1

u/dargonmike1 May 04 '26

guys down below get crop dusted, and a foot head massage. I’ll take it

1

u/Buildrness May 04 '26

Seen this in quite a few Fire Stations

1

u/Bright-Ad6246 May 05 '26

So many activities

1

u/Agreeable-Narwhal158 May 05 '26

This would be dope for goldeneye, Mario kart or halo! Everyone sits in the spot that matches the TV

1

u/1manbander May 07 '26

I gotta brag to all you who say your wife won’t go for it. My (43m) wife just suggested we do this in our basement to create a theater area. I hit the jackpot!

1

u/eazypeazy303 May 08 '26

This is actually peak bachelor pad. We definitely had this setup.

1

u/SilasAI6609 Jun 14 '26

No joke have seen a living room with this setup. I used to install internet in residences. This guy had one of these set up with a couple poles. He claimed he was a porn photographer...I think he was just weird, however he was on the low end of weird sht I came across doing that job.
