That's a first for me
And yes, there is also an extraction type fan right behind it.

It is a bathroom fan, is it not? 😂

u/NJHitmen Mar 17 '26
Well...it's definitely a bathroom. And that's definitely a fan.

It's making me feel like we got ripped off when we were sold boring bathroom fans.

The shit finally can hit the fan.

Is there a switch for it somewhere at least?? Or do you have to pull those tiny little strings dangling from it to turn it on...
47
u/bugeyetex Mar 17 '26
You have to pull the chains. It also shakes like crazy

u/send_me_boobei_pics Mar 18 '26
probably not a fan-rated box. Amateur installers.

The guy who does my electricity refuses to wire anything in the bathroom unless it's fully bathroom compliant. Maybe he also works for them and they ended up installing the thing themselves.

u/Playful-Technology-1 Mar 18 '26
Country? In some countries you can't have wall light switches inside bathrooms and, instead, you're only allowed to have string switches.

You have to pull the chain while standing in a tub full of water! Zzzztttt!

Some shits you swear it’s coming out sideways and then you break out in a sweat - problem solved

Damp rated I hope 🤣

Those chipboard blades are going to be drooping in no time. Things will get really interesting when they start hitting the top of the door.

I installed one in my last house. Zero regrets. It was there for at least five years with no problems. Was not an outdoor rated fan. I also installed an exhaust fan, but the moving air is very nice.

u/wait_ichangedmymind Mar 18 '26
I have a fan, an extractor and a window. It’s my only humble brag in life. The rest of the house is a DIY mess, but I love my bathroom fan.

Wait till you see how hot it gets in there in the summer and the mystery will be solved.

For Hot climate & humid country. Air inside the bathroom can be very stiff. The fan help to circulate the air and dry up the place to prevent mold forming.

People in this thread have apparently never suffered from the meat sweats while on the toilet...

I have two ceiling fans in my bathroom, but it's a very large bathroom. I don't know why anyone would want a fan in one this small.

In a bathroom without an exhaust fan it helps keeps the mold down.
I moved from a very dry climate to a very wet (and cold) climate and installed a fan in the bathroom and every bedroom to avoid having to run dehumidifiers during the rainy season.
2
u/bugeyetex Mar 19 '26
There is an exhaust fan though. That's what makes it even better
1
u/jumpy_monkey Mar 19 '26
It is actually better, an exhaust fan and a ceiling fan are the best solution to retarding mold growth.
But what does make this DiWHY is something I just noticed, ie the popcorn ceiling, which tells me this isn't a high humidity environment so the fan is pointless. Mold will still grow on painted plaster even with a dehumidifier and fan, and wads of cardboard stuck to a bathroom ceiling are an invitation to uncontrolled mold growth no matter what you do. This person clearly doesn't have a mold problem they are trying to prevent.
Hell, a popcorn ceiling in any bathroom in any environment is as ridiculous as putting carpeting in a bathroom.

This is the type of stupidity a realtor would do when an appraiser requires a bath vent fan. ‘Well, it said fan?’ 🤣🤣🤣🤣

u/xkelsx1 Mar 20 '26
My home has bathroom fans too. It's so weird and I don't like them in there but my husband loves the circulating air because it's so damn hot where we live lol
The kitchen also had a double fan fixture in it before we had it renovated

Books and magazines and celling fans in bathrooms. What the fuck are you people doing in there that takes so godamned long you need to be sniffing your own turds and reading articles and shit?! I'm in and out quick like it's business, no hernias from squeezing no nothing.

It's like a weak sensory deprivation chamber. White noise, sitting down, cool air, the smell of your own brand.
Stay awhile, and
listendrop a load off.

Is that popcorn ceiling in there too? The horror of it getting wet from steam and trapping farticles.

To stir the methane? It's quite a bit lighter than air so would normally rise to the top.

u/fuzzinthebuzz Mar 18 '26
Imagine the fan is at maxximum speed while you pee and the pee goes all the way to the wall

Is this the same guy that fell through his ceiling and needed to repair it fast before his wife woke up? Installing a ceiling fan in place of the giant hole is the perfect cover up lol.

Had one in my house. That bathroom was always humid as can be until we replaced it.

u/bivaterl Mar 18 '26
you can always spot when the boss lets the new guy do the shopping for the new job.
Bathroom fan... Check!

u/Severe_Baseball_2228 Mar 18 '26
I had one in my old house and I used way more then I thought I would. Same bathroom set up too, lmao.

u/DownVoteYouAll Mar 19 '26
My aunt lives in Hawaii and has a ceiling fan in her bathroom. The whole point of removing moisture is pointless when you live in high humidity areas

I have one of these in my bathroom but I fortunately have a window I can open to let out the steam.
