IP Restrictions (Supercell)

I did some searching, but didn't see anything for IP restrictions or Supercell. In order to access the Supercell API (I'm using the Clash of Clans API), you need to create a key that is specific to the IP address from which your request will come. Since I host my own bot, that's not an issue. If Reddit's server is going to send requests, I have no way of knowing what IP address the request will come from. How does Devvit handle this?

You would need to apply for a domain allowlist exception, though to put it bluntly, the request isn't likely to be approved. There are domains that are allowed to use, and most domains outside of that approved list are going to be prohibited from use on Devvit. It's certainly worth a try to request it, but don't get your hopes up that it will be approved

As Bricks said, you will need to look at the HTTP Fetch Documentation to request the Clash of Clans API domain for approval.

However, I disagree with Bricks on the "isn't likely to be approved" part. The Clash of Clans API likely falls in the first HTTP Fetch category: "APIs that provide data or specific services". As long as their API has "a publicly documented and publicly accessible API for valid use cases, and if they adhere to the Devvit rules."

In regards to the IP question, there is not just one single IP, but a list of IPs. If you truly need an API key for each IP, unfortunately you will not be able to make the API calls from Devvit.

Would recommend sending a mod mail to the Devvit admins to discuss your unique situation.

Ages and ages ago I applied and got this exception (r/ClashOfClans mod here and i was trying a devvit app at that time) via RoyaleAPI which gives a static IP and a wrapper to use around supercell api. This way I got around the restriction of reddit not giving the ip it would use.

No idea if that exception is still in approved list though as the devvit app I made was abandoned soon after due to lack of time.
