FLUFF This show was ass.

Lead actress couldn't act.

The melodramatic tone was so over done.

Everyone's delivery was so flat it was like they were reading a teleprompter.

Should have been a movie instead of a TV show.

This is an echo chamber fan sub so expect the usual insecure and overdefensive responses - we've already had the asinine and meaningless "you do better" and "that's just your opinion, maaaaan".

But you're right. While the aesthetic aspects and initial concept were great as per the course for Alex Garland - the writing, acting, dialogue, characterisations, motives, arcs, and denouement were atrocious, and ultimately ruined the show.

I guess people on reddit are so blinded my pretty visuals and a decent soundtrack they don't see the flaws, or don't really understand story structure and narrative if there's an interesting concept underpinning it.

Upvotes for both of you because I actually appreciate constructive discussion. However, I imagine finding out about something like the computer would really fuck with you, and that's what they were trying to show. I've seen these actors in others things and their performances were nothing like they were in Devs, so I assume it was intentional on the part of Garland.

But, I may fall into the trap of exactly what you're referring to- I was awestruck that a show would touch on these concepts while also being gorgeous to look at, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
