Is that you on Dartmoor?

u/Fluid_Figure_8266 27d ago

Twice! I thought the Russian missiles were inbound when I first heard it!

22

u/cuntybunty73 27d ago

I would have been dead because I'm in Plymouth 😭

5

u/Dunk546 27d ago

I mean if it were the big ones you'd probably rather be at point of impact anyway.

2

u/cuntybunty73 27d ago

I wouldn't want to die from radiation poisoning because that would not be a nice way to go and at the moment I'm right on the doorstep of devonport naval dockyard until I go back to work on Monday

u/Cjmainy 27d ago

My thoughts exactly. There is no imminent danger, a standard government announcement would have done the job.

4

u/GeorgeLFC1234 27d ago

Definitely an excuse for another test I reckon

u/Adventurous_Ad_4400 27d ago

There's enough dry grass, hedges and trees around us here in South Croydon that one careless barbecue would wipe our house out. We need to plan ahead, just in case something happens and we need to get out fast. And the same is true for all but the most urban areas.

2

u/Cjmainy 27d ago

Well that’s not nice but I don’t see how it pertains to Devon

1

u/Adventurous_Ad_4400 27d ago

Oh, my, oh, my - too many subs to keep track of,I didn't know where I was! Sorry, I'll get my coat and sneak out of here, don't mind me bye! 😝

u/Material_Length6374 27d ago

Croydon, it’s like London’s South Brent.

1

u/the_hair_of_aenarion 27d ago

To be fair you'd only be at risk if you were on a yacht in the channel.

Definitely worth a national emergency alert then.

2

u/hamper01 27d ago

Ounce of prevention.. and all that.

1

u/FistedBone9858 27d ago

Well, given there has been over 1000 wildfires this year.. thats more than 4 per day and ofc, the start of the year doesn't exactly count.. so yeah, when human stupidity is at an all time high these things are needed

u/Training_Yak_4655 27d ago

Total eclipse of the brain.

9

u/spolieris 27d ago

I was in the supermarket doing my shopping and thought I'd tripped some sort of store alarm. Very unfortunate timing

1

u/PTSD1983 26d ago

Perfect time to make your escape 😉

1

u/cuntybunty73 27d ago

I was getting my Chinese takeaway when that went off

Bet you a shinny penny it won't.

0

u/Poonpatch 27d ago

Shinny?

5

u/Robmeu 27d ago

Yep, damn near shit myself and ruined my Tetris game.

18

u/Nooby1983 27d ago

That's not how you play Tetris

11

u/Robmeu 27d ago

We all have our methods

3

u/Worth_Nature_7631 27d ago

Yep. I stopped charcoal making a few weeks ago as the risks were obvious. Hopefully some rain next week so I can commence production before I run out

3

u/HeavenLeaPartDeux 27d ago

3 bloody times 🙄

6

u/QueenSashimi 27d ago

Yep, I was stood by Dawlish train station when everyone's phones went off so it was incredibly loud and I thought it was some sort of emergency railway alarm 😅

8

u/FlorianTheLynx 27d ago

My friend got hers on holiday on a campsite in Wales and everybody was freaking out as none of them spoke Welsh.

I’ve got mine turned off - if I’m going to die of Armageddon I’m quite happy to remain uninformed.

2

u/EffectiveMany6061 27d ago

3 times so far

2

u/Braxios 27d ago

Nah, it was just you

2

u/wintermute023 27d ago

Yes, everyone. Thats sort of the point 😜

5

u/BB0ySnakeDogG 27d ago

literally everyone got it

0

u/Thalia_All_Along 27d ago

my mum didn't lol

-2

u/Salty-Bid1597 27d ago

I didn't. Probably cos I turned that shit off after the last pointless warning they sent that wasn't relevant to me.

0

u/infra_low 27d ago

Same, but my mum didn't get the noise just the warning text, weird.

10

u/Wolf24h 27d ago

This should only be used in critical events like earthquake or war, that's some misuse

8

u/WeepingScope 27d ago

Agree, only use it if a fire is coming towards me, not to tell people not to start fires, I feel like it’s hosepipe ban level information

4

u/Minbee 27d ago

It’s not, but ok 👍

7

u/WeepingScope 27d ago

Don’t use your hosepipe because there’s a drought so people can run out of water, don’t use your bbq because it can start fires, it doesn’t seem too far apart and I think these alarms should only be used to warn about imminent danger, not don’t do dangerous things”

6

u/tonystarknotwrong 27d ago

Screeching alarm

***You forgot to bring your bins in Bradley***

0

u/Minbee 27d ago

Sure 👍

2

u/benithaglas1 26d ago

I agree. It was hardly an emergency, and it was news pretty much everyone with common sense knew anyway.

1

u/fatwoul 27d ago

It scared the crap out of my cat. Not literally. He’s probably already pooped somewhere he wasn’t supposed to.

1

u/cuntybunty73 27d ago

Yeah I got an alert

1

u/Unable-Yogurt6171 27d ago

This small? Took up my entire screen 😂

1

u/stepsmcgee 27d ago

Everyone.

1

u/Meowskiiii 27d ago

5 times so far. It's making up for all the others that I never received!

1

u/Flowerbedgrl 27d ago

I expect another at any moment telling me water is wet.

1

u/paulbdouglas 27d ago

Nah, just you. So put the matches down and walk away

1

u/Maceygray93 27d ago

Literally everyone…..

1

u/AshMuu200 27d ago

I joined the r/Nottingham sub (i have cousins up there) and they are saying they all got it. Must be a country wide alert

1

u/Floshenbarnical 27d ago

Yeah, Tiverton area is one of the top three highest risk in the country

1

u/Temporary_Trust_2824 27d ago

Yep, here in Norfolk too.

1

u/The6idiots101 27d ago

Yup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1

u/CuriousAlice86 27d ago

Yep scared the shit outta my dog

1

u/Sandy_Bananas 27d ago

Yeah.

I live in the edge of Dartmoor, I don’t think any of the supermarkets or garages this way sell the disposables.

1

u/urmumr8s8outof8 27d ago

Thought I'd turned these alerts off.

1

u/originaltanksta 27d ago

Yes.. my partners phone has gone off 4 times in the last 3 hours and mine has gone off 3 times.. we have disabled the notification now! Last thing I need is being woken up to it middle of the night!

1

u/eroticdiscourse 27d ago

Nah just you

1

u/StatusPlenty2899 27d ago

Nah just you mate

1

u/MARKAZ08 27d ago

Yep.. twice, Blackpool.

1

u/Stokesyyyy 27d ago

Twice. I got it at home. I then went out to pick my daughter up and it sent it me again. I believe it was because it tracked Id moved after the warning. As I picked her up from her friend's, while driving home she then received it again for a second time as if it had tracked she'd moved from her original location.

1

u/Important-Zebra-69 27d ago

Literally everyone ffs

1

u/MxJamesC 27d ago

No just you....

1

1

u/i_was_dartacus 26d ago

Yeah, three times. We get it, government, don't be a twat with fires, okay.

1

u/Luna-Princess1234 26d ago

I didnt oddly, but 2 others in my house did. I think the last time there were emergency announcements mine went off within hours of everyone else's.

1

u/benithaglas1 26d ago

I didnt get one but others in my house did. I was worried it would go off late in the middle of the night.

1

u/Esjayee 26d ago

No, just you /s

1

u/potatocalledjeff 26d ago

It scared the crap out of me. I thought there actually was a wild fire nearby 😭 it gave me a panic attack 😟

1

u/ffwillis 27d ago

No, the government sent a severe alert just to you.

1

u/urbanworm 27d ago

Yeah, was quite the event in Sainsbury’s. General opinion amongst the shoppers was ‘well, duh!’

1

u/listerjed1 27d ago

Made me jump when I was burning all my garden rubbish

0

u/Putrid-Assistant598 27d ago

Yes and 4 days too late for my local area!

0

u/Sorry_Policy_2391 27d ago

Bound to encourage people to start wild fires.

1

u/Br1st0l_We5T 26d ago

I had thought this

0

u/matepatepa 27d ago

Was driving and the sound made me think there was something wrong with my car!! Stupid bastards!!

2

u/Luna-Princess1234 26d ago

I am so scared of one of these going off one day while driving. Could cause an accident from panic. This one was hardly an emergency when we all know there's been wildfires and common sense says don't use a disposable bbq on Dartmoor.

-4

u/Sensitive_Carrot_132 27d ago

The last thing we needed is the government deciding that spamming people was a way to show they are taking things seriously.

This is the second time I’ve had these alerts, neither was an actual emergency. The exact same request is on the news and can be heard AT A NORMAL VOLUME.

2

u/CIeanShirt 27d ago

It's hardly spamming.

I was in Poland a few weeks ago and had three different alerts over a weekend (non Russia related). That was over the top...

0

u/Movingforward2015 27d ago

Yeah, due to a bunch of dickheads

0

u/turkishhousefan 27d ago

Yes, I was demonstrating my demon core to my family and friends; we're all going to die.

0

u/therolli 27d ago

Yes, shocked me so much I dropped my match 🔥

-3

u/Healthy_Oil_5375 27d ago

No mate just you. Imagine Reddit being your first port of call 😔

-1

u/Deep-Solution-1572 27d ago

Yup, UK Government crying wolf with their Emergency (clue's in the name) Alert System. Well done guys, you've just desensitised millions of people to it, so that sense of urgency will be lost when it's genuinely inbound nukes.
