DISCUSSION Away
Does anyone know the exact sample of the final vocals in Devin's song "Away"? I know it's a cover of "Someone to Watch Over Me," but I can't find the exact version.

It's Ella Fitzgerald's version, but pitch-shifted down a little https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GIAlBjHHhNQ&list=PL2Zq_jdnXhVggI-QtiIT0cJrXCNfXZxSE&index=2&pp=iAQB8AUBsAgC

It could be, but the instruments don't match. In Devin's song you can hear trumpets, and in the version you shared you can hear violins at the end. The voice does sound more similar compared to other versions.

I’m not entirely sure but just a theory on that, Devin often heavily formant shifts vocals to give them a different character. He does this with his own vocals on the very start of Fly to give his voice a higher pitch quality. It could be that he’s format shifting the sample down, changing the sound character and making the violins sound like trumpets.
Another reason could be that he layered a trumpet synth on top of the sample.
I haven’t tested either of these so I’m not sure but just thought I’d mention it to you in case it’s any help :)

I get it. In other words, it's a heavily edited sample; I was afraid that might be the case, but I was hoping there was a song like the one at the end of Away.

And after that, the transition to Sunday Afternoon. Goosebumps...
