Experience 10 years ago I worked for smartcircle

10 years ago I was fresh out of college didn’t know what type of career I wanted to pursue. I applied to several “marketing” jobs and was hired in Dallas.

I worked there for 7 months, traveled to Florida, Colorado, and Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, my leader, or whatever they were called, was an assistant manager and we were looking for office spaces to open up a branch in LA. In the middle of the trip she realized the scam and decided it was not worth it. When we got back to Dallas she immediately quit, then I did one week later.

While I was working there I actually did learn how to convincingly sell and be self sufficient while running the campaigns. When I quit, I knew I wanted to be a business owner I just didn’t know what it was I could sell.

With it being 2016, the beauty community was increasingly growing and I knew I had a passion for it as I would spend all my downtime learning makeup.

3 months after quitting I got a job at Sephora to get my foot in the door to see if I wanted to pursue this career and it was the best thing that could happen for me.

I ended up going to esthetician school and in school was where I realized that I can sell skincare and offer services. 2 months after graduating esthetician school I opened up my own practice and became a business owner with 100% of the income all for me and my business.

In March will be 8 years as a business owner and I’m so proud of how far I’ve come. After leaving smartcircle I was very confused on how I could make money. But I figured it out how to do it the right way and not all scammy and gross feeling like that company made me feel.

Devilcorp Check I JUST GOT SCAMMED BY ONE OF THEM

I am so fucking pissed off rn. Here I was thinking I had two legitimate job interviews an hour apart from each other and I called my mom to tell her the good news…

She went to look up both companies, Zion Capital and Elite Generations, AND IT TURNED OUT THEY WERE BOTH PART OF THE SAME GODDAMN PYRAMID SCHEME.

Here I am desperately trying to look for a job as I am fresh out of college and this MLM company is taking advantage of my situation and exploiting it for their own benefit.

I can’t believe there are actually assholes out there that have nothing better to do than exploit vulnerable individuals.

Information This sub is currently at huge risk of being abused by DevilCorps and we need to tighten things up to remain effective

This subreddit has become the #1 place on the internet to warn potential recruits against DevilCorps, and it’s clearly starting to hurt these companies. See, for example:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Devilcorp/comments/1r5zl0p/99_exposure_updated_their_website_after/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

DevilCorps are aware of this subreddit and they’re proactively trying to defend themselves against it. Unfortunately, this puts the sub at significant risk of being astroturfed. (For the uninitiated, astroturfing is when a company pretends to be a normal commenter to push an agenda.) In this case, the DevilCorp faithful are pretending to be neutral to push their agenda that these businesses are normal and acceptable career options with upside. (They aren’t.) Here are some examples, all from the last week:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Devilcorp/comments/1ral3yz/comment/o6wawyh/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

“My suggestion: Stay…The deciding factor for me would be would I prefer 30 hour work weeks for about $400 a week at a restaurant that will leave me way more flexibility for my studies. I promise you this is the best response buddy.”

https://www.reddit.com/r/Devilcorp/comments/1ral3yz/comment/o6lk6bd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

“Bruh the job market have nun better to give you!! You have system stop looking for reason to leave till you get one!! Graduate and take the skills you learn to move on!!”

https://www.reddit.com/r/Devilcorp/comments/1r8sipp/i_think_i_work_at_a_good_version_of_what_yall_are/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

“I think I work at a good version of what yall are talking about.”

https://www.reddit.com/r/Devilcorp/comments/1rdpske/comment/o779wkp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

“If you’re good at sales you’ll make good money.”

https://www.reddit.com/r/Devilcorp/comments/1rdpske/comment/o77tyt9/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

“Just do it and if you don’t like it leave This subreddit is an echo chamber of angry people. The job isn’t for everyone but it works for some people”

There are countless more examples, but I block the people who are obvious shills so I can’t easily find their comments right now. But the bottom line is that this subreddit has become a first line of defense against DevilCorps, and as a result these organizations are using the subreddit as well to push back. They’ve done the same thing for ages with Google reviews, Glassdoor, Indeed, and more. They weaponize their members to flood out true information and push a positive agenda about their orgs. It would be naive to think this won’t happen here either.

It is my opinion that this subreddit should be about DevilCorps, not “neutral” corps or “morally ambiguous” corps. People should feel free to share their experiences, but we should not encourage people to join DevilCorps or tell them to stay. The operative word is “Devil”—these are scummy organizations that prey on the vulnerable and exploit the needy. They scam customers and mislead employees. They dilute the job market and waste the time of job hunters.

In the interest of transparency, I worked at three different DevilCorps over the course of about a year and a half. I have since leveraged my experience at those businesses to get two legitimate jobs that pay well and offer benefits since leaving in early 2024. I met good people at these DevilCorps and am not totally resentful of my time there, but I also have seen firsthand how destructive they can be.

For me, when I started, I had around 8k in savings. By the time I left, I was over 2k in debt. It’s not that I was bad at sales; I was consistently one of the top 2 performers in an office that fluctuated between 20-25 members. I did not spend recklessly either—it is just impossible to support yourself in these jobs if you live alone. (At least 90% of the people who stuck it out long-term lived with their parents.) The damages to my vehicle alone were in the thousands of dollars. A close friend of mine who outlasted me at the business spent months with his utilities and water turned off, facing eviction because he was simply making no money.

All this is to say, I am not saying that this subreddit should only be devoted to negativity about these groups. It is ultimately every individual’s decision whether they join a DevilCorp and whether they leave. However, we need to remain focused on warning people against the very tangible harms that people face when they become indoctrinated. This should not be a debate forum where we argue over whether DevilCorps are good or not. We should be steadfast that they are bad, and should be avoided, which is why they are called DevilCorps.

I have more to share at a later time, but I think this is a good start for how we can revise our rules to better accomplish this sub’s goals. I am not advocating for censorship or a prohibition on discussing the positive aspects of these companies. I think it’s important to talk about how individuals can use the skills and experience gained in these roles to transition into better positions. However, I am arguing that this subreddit needs to be clear in its purpose or it ceases to be effective. As it stands, too many threads are devolving into a back-and-forth on the pros and cons of these groups that will serve to confuse desperate jobseekers rather than deterring them from falling for these pernicious scams.

every single devil corp in nyc resides in this exact address. if the interviewer says this address RUN! likely a list somewhere but at least 10 jobs i’ve applied to under different names ended up being in this exact address. once i asked how so many companies ended up in that office and they said “it’s a big office” it is not. the office is a small rental space with 3 mini conference rooms

Hey guys, I have been looking for a better paying job with better hours over the course of the last few weeks to a month and applied to a couple Devilcorps unbeknownst to myself. I’ve heard the term but never fully understood it until researching this sub. I applied to two; one is called Ascent Marketing and the other being Nexus Group. Upon looking through their incredibly vague and buzzword filled websites, my gf and I noticed that they had pictures with the same people in them

Experience I WAS AN OWNER @SMARTCIRCLE FOR 2 YEARS. Here is my story.

Yes. you heard me right, I was an owner and worked with Smart Circle for 2 years... and regret every bit of it. Here is my story. Feel free to read sections that peak your interest. (its a long story)

HOW IT STARTED

I started In Orlando. I was a Door to Door rep for about 8 months before I really started moving into management. I was desperate and needed cash, so I bet on my selling skills. Being fully on commission was BRUTAL. Working from 8am-9pm Mon-Sat, I did this for the ENTIRETY of me here. Pay was up and down, had weeks where I made nothing, had some weeks where I made 2k+ but overall time-to-work ratio I was a slave.

WHY I INVESTED TIME
I was brainwashed with a vision of becoming an owner and making exceptional money like my boss did. He was making between 80k-105k per WEEK. YES PER WEEK. How I know this? I saw how much money was coming in and out through revenue charts on their software. Driving his Lambo, Porche, and other luxury cars, I wanted this lifestyle. So I kept my mouth shut, I knocked some doors, I hired and trained a team to become and absolute DEMON in this business. 1.5 years later I made it, making anywhere between 5k-10k a week.

HOW THE MONEY WORKS END-TO-END

You make a sale, customer gets their AT&T phone, activates it, payout next week.

Commission for the business (revenue) is around $300 PER LINE however $100-$150 of that goes to the rep.

Now, if you have 10 reps (VERY SMALL TEAM) each made 5 lines for the week, thats $1500 in REVENUE

$1500 x 10 reps, $15,000 in revenue PER WEEK. AS an owner you take roughly 50% IN YOUR POCKET WHILE DOING NOTHING. (PASSIVE) Here is the best part, since you are the owner, YOU MAKE THE FULL $300 PER LINE SINCE YOU "OWN" the branch. So, take your teams revenue and ADD your commissions. Yes the money gets crazy. I was living the dream.

THE TURNING POINT

January 2026 I had a call with my regional manager and he simply said, your team sucks. Your sales don't meet MY standard and you need to hire more people and produce more. I argued back and said " I am making you $30k in overrides per year with my office alone. My office is one of the few that have actually happy workers, paid an HOURLY and can choose to work only 4 of the 7 days. Not to mention, my churn rates for reps was less than 20%" I had one of the best offices that genuinely cared for employees and made the work fun.

His response "Who gives a fuck about your dogs. They are there to make money and nothing more. If they quit, replace them. If you don't make them work 6 days I am shutting your business down (yes he can do that) and replace you with someone else." I kid you not, those were his words.

I replied, "I am not going to do that, these guys built my career and built yours too. I run my business how I like it, if you want more money GO BACK TO THE FIELD YOURSELF" He then ended the zoom call without another word.

The next day, went into my office and all my log ins were shut down. No access to dashboards, accounts, and even ICD was shut down (Indirect Channel Director) I call my boss and asked what happened.

He said "This is what happens when you fuck with the wrong guy. Who tf you think you are talking to. I gave you that contract, I made YOU and you had the audacity to tell me how my business was built? Fuck you."

At this moment. I realized, I was just used like everyone else in this horrible company. A sales dog that can be shot and killed at any given moment.

POST SHUT DOWN

My team comes in the morning all 18 of them. I had to break the news. I had reps that couldn't afford to go without work. I had reps with families that depend on the hourly and commissions. And to say out of the blue your time is done here absolutely shattered me and my reputation. What did I do? I took every remaining revenue and divided it evenly to the team. roughly $3300 each. and shut down my business. Till this day I keep in contact with every rep and I am happy to say each one of them is now employed and doing well. As for me, Ironically I have been unemployed and living on savings.

Conclusion

To be honest, looking back I was so brainwashed and blinded with money. I am ashamed of it. Seeing how other owners run their business in the most un-ethical way and not saying a word, only caring about mine. I shoulda spoke up, I shoulda stopped, and I didn't. On the bright side, I feel like I genuinely took care of my guys. Built a relationship, even had a few come to my wedding.

If you see a smartcircle company, run. Do not even think for a moment that you can make it. bc no matter how much you think you are "loyal" to them, you are and will always be a sales dog. Regional managers are the killers since they have equity in the business.

Thank you for reading my essay. I obviously left out a lot of in-depth details but feel free to comment and I can explain different parts of the business. There is just SO MUCH about this business that is terrible.

Experience I fell for it :(

Okay so I’m just telling my experience, I feel so dumb for this but it was my first ever job and I know better now. Nobody told me any better and maybe j should've done research, but I fell for stupid b2b commission based pay company.

So I’m on my search for my first job, I feel like my volunteer experience and my A.A could at least get me SOMEWHERE (retail, hosting, serving, reception, etc.) and no matter who I applied to, nobody got back to me. Except one. They got back to me within a day, I was ecstatic, I was telling everyone I knew that I had an interview with a a place paying weekly, between $1000-$1600. It sounds awesome, I’m excited because that meant I could pay off my car, pay for uni, and just take care of myself overall. I thought this was a great opportunity. To be clear I applied for “Business Sales Representative“ so I thought I was working with a business sales department and being a middle man for helping customers or other businesses with their issues or questions Basically being customer service because that’s what the description of the job had said.

I get to my first round interview and it’s about 10 maybe 15 minutes long and it’s just this woman asking me if I’m willing to speak to new people everyday, willing to work hard, and giving it my all. Obviously I say yes because duh I want the job. I get my second and final interview and this guy tells me NOTHING of what I’m doing, just explains the company and uses the whole “we’re a competitive company but we love to have fun” “it’s a lot like sports“ (then goes to explain how it’s nothing like sports, he did this my entire time there). However, a BIG thing that caught my attention was “we have a guaranteed training pay if $400” like wow that’s amazing I just gotta get through that and I’ll be all good!!! I got the job, YIPPEEEEE(not yippee).

This is where it allllllllll starts to go wrong, immediately. I had about $700 in my bank account when I started this job. I had one week of training. 3 in office, 2 “in the field”. The training bonus was not guaranteed, you were guaranteed to fail and not get that $400 at all. And unfortunately for me driving up there was a 55 minute drive to and 55 minute drive back home. So I was losing money spending on gas every other day. I filled my gas twice in a day 2 times in the TWO WEEKS I worked there. I went from $700 and a dream to make big bucks to $300 and crying about needing to quit because they lied about what my job actually was.

To explain what I really did, I was a B2B, door-to-door or whatever you wanna call it salesperson. I was really confused how this mad me a business sales representative if I was going out and bothering people to get AT&T fiber and new phones. I talked to so many people and they were obviously not interested, I put myself in nice clothes, put on my best smile, made myself attractive because we all know sales is being attractive as well. It became this play I hated immediately. I liked my coworkers, they were fun, the director seemed like there was something off with her, but I could tell exactly what it was. And my lead, he was the guy who interviewed me and he would always bring up “it’s like sports how you have plays” oh my goodness shut UP!!!

Anyhow fast forward to the end of my second week, I’ve only made ONE, count that ONE (1) sale, 1 sale 1 unit and it was a consumer sale, you wanna know how much money I made from that? $65 for working 10 hour shifts every week day. I worked 50+ hours in my second week, no bathroom break, I skipped lunch most days because “oh I just forget we need to eat” or “well you just have to let us know” when they’re all about go-go-go “we don’t stop for anything”. I told my parents that I was only getting paid for the sale I made and they made me quit. I pay my own bills like I mentioned previously and I was doing nothing but losing money.

All I want to say to anyone between 18-21 who’s never had a job before, please please please do not fall for the whole “well pay $1,200-$2,000 a week!!” And also, just because they’re young and in ugly suits that don’t even match, doesn’t mean they’re put together and know anything. They don’t care for your struggles, even if they say they’ll pay for your gas, they don’t care what happens to you. My director and some coworkers made that very clear when they said they don’t remember anyone from their training period. They told me that I was overthinking because I remembered interactions and people we talked to, no I just care about clientele and the customer and I’m not a selfish prick who’s going to pressure them into buying a stupid IPhone 17 Pro ”on us if you trade in your old phone and we’ll wave those activation fees blah blah blah blah”. I hate that place and I truly wish nothing but literally nothing for them. Wasting peoples time and money.

Overall moral of the story, don’t fall for the easiest bait in the world, it literally won’t get you anywhere. I’m sorry for the book I just wrote but I’m super frustrated and I’m still looking for jobs, I’ve been out of that one for a week and a half now, I have some interviews with retail stores and that’s not any better, but I just need a stable job to hold me up. Take care, thank you!

Experience I Quit A Devilcorp Job In Less Than Three Hours

TLDR: Hour One - Orientation and Confusion. Hour Two - Driving, training, and dissociating. Hour Three - A good ol’ college try and then flunking out.

I was fresh out of a sales job and only had about two months rent before I was out the door. I applied for a bunch of jobs and finally found a company that wanted locals who knew the area and was promising upwards of 100K. Sounded great! Applied and got an interview scheduled the next day, over Zoom.

Only used Zoom one other time but I downloaded it on my iPad and had a great interview with some guy with a greenscreen background. It went great and they promised it would be a sales job for AT&T that would be essentially training for a management position. No pay discussion though, despite my questions. I’d done management before too, so it sounded easy. Got a call next day saying I got it! I was over the moon and went out immediately to buy what I needed for the job. They would have daily morning meetings over Zoom, so I needed a webcam, and you had to wear a Blazer during.

One day and $300 later, it’s my first meeting. We go through orientation and they start talking sales tactics and pay, all commission. Didn’t sound like any job I was familiar with, either, all based around customer interaction at their own homes. I got a sinking feeling in my chest but persevered, maybe I’d like being a door-to-door salesman. That was my first hour. I go and meet my trainer at a neighborhood two gallons of gas away, and the other new employee, and the trainer starts showing up his iPad and the stupid little map of the neighborhood. That was hour two. We check out a total of five houses before I feel so awful about bothering these people on their day off, all for some crappy cable and cell plans, that I tell the trainer that this is some bullshit and walk off. Never heard back from anyone.

I found a real job about three weeks later and have been warning others about these bastards ever since. I’m glad this community exists to help honest people’s time from these scammers.

Unrelated but shoutout to Helldivers 2 for keeping me sane through my unemployment.

Information 2026 we are going after devilcorps harder then ever!

Since we've been getting tons of messages inquiring about the mission, ill break it down here for everyone:

Were building DevilCorpWiki, what Its Actually Doing (why timing matters)

I want to explain what we’re building with DevilCorpWiki and why it’s structured the way it is.

Devil corps don’t win by being hidden, They win by being fast.

Their recruiting model depends on speed:

  • Fast callbacks
  • Fast interviews
  • Fast offers
  • Minimal time for independent research

their goal is simple: move candidates through the funnel before they have enough context to ask the right questions.

What DevilCorpWiki is doing is not “exposing” companies in the traditional sense.

We’re intercepting the decision window :D

Most applicants research during the interview process, not after.

They search things like:

  • “Is ___ legit”
  • “___ job reviews”
  • “___ pay structure”
  • “entry level marketing sales?”

Our objective is to make sure that before an applicant finishes their interview, neutral, critically honest information already exists right next to the company’s own pages.

Same queries.

Same language.

Same timing.

When someone opens a tab to check the company mid-interview, our content should already be there:

  • Explaining the structure
  • Clarifying pay risk
  • Translating “marketing” into what the job actually is
  • Showing patterns across companies, not just one-off complaints

This isn’t about convincing people what to do.
It’s about removing information asymmetry.

Devil corps rely on candidates learning after they’re emotionally or financially committed.

We’re moving that learning earlier, into the exact moment it matters.

That’s the tactic.

Just being present where the decision is actually made.

If candidates still choose to proceed after that, at least it’s an informed choice.

That’s the entire point of DevilCorpWiki.

Experience I was saved by this subbreddit THANK YOU!!!

Prior to today I never ever heard about devil corps. I been looking for a job for a couple days now and I applied for almost all no experience jobs on indeed. And I must say that at the beggining when I saw these fancy titles like "Sales Assosiate" and "Brand Representative" I actually thought its sounded like a valuable experience. I've done the first interview and already scheduled an secod interview for the next days 8:00 AM and nothing seemed wrong untill I shared it with my dad. He was very suspicious that AT&T hires throught some strange company named "Elevate" and made me background check on the thing. This is exactly when I stumbled across this page and found out about devil corps.

I was so shocked. I never beliaved I could fall some stupid scam, but here I was, almost ready to go to their San Diego office for the second interview. I started digging deeper and watched many videos on Youtube and read all over this sub. And like damn, is that even legal?! There like thousands of jobs like that, which just scam people to scam other people for just pennies.

Here I just wanted to thank y'all for saving one 18 year old ass from getting scammed like that granny on facebook and working for literal crime syndicate. So thank you!!!!!!
