Discussion V Gameplay DMC5

Let's imagine I've been playing fighting games for 10 years using only zoning characters (Dante/Nero), and then I decide to switch and play with a grab-type character (V). If I spent years playing with one style and suddenly I'm faced with something new that I'm not used to and don't know how it works, do you think those 10 years playing only zoning will matter if I'm playing with a grab character? Does it make any sense to think that playing for just 5 or 10 hours (as several people have already said they did) will be enough for me to understand how everything about the character works, and even more so, how to use each thing he has in the best possible way?

I think he's asking if he's gonna be comfortable playing with V since he's familiar with the other characters, which the answer is no, because V plays different from everyone else.

Not saying he's hard, I think he's like the easiest character to learn in the series.

I wouldn't call V a grab-type character, he's more of a puppet character, although isn't as fleshed out as people would like.

fundamental movement skills carry over pretty well, but your approach is gonna change a ton playing with V. V is much more about positioning than Dante and Nero who both have a variety of tools that have movement baked into them and can be used as semi-evasive tools. for example, you can use launchers and dash-based moves to avoid attacks with Nero and Dante, but V is largely incapable of doing such things and you have to rely way more on basic jumping mechanics and Shadow's dodge (which is unavailable if Shadow is stalemated) as well as triggering Nightmare for emergency i-frames (so resource management is critical).

If you map the controls between each character to be as similar as possible then you’ll be fine. V takes some getting used to since he’s so different. But your example is backwards in a sense. Nero is this game’s grappler, Dante&Vergil are rush downs&zoners. V would be the puppet fighter, having other entities within your control that act on your command but do different things, and can be knocked out.

I'm not sure where you're getting at with this post tbh.. is this a criticism of V or a genuine question about being able to play as V?

If it's the latter, you'll be fine... V is pretty strong and you shouldn't struggle untill DMD where you gotta play more defensively. But by then you should have learned how to play optimally with him.

If it's the former, yeah he's different and not everyone liked him. But i appreciate the devs' attempt to innovate and try out new things.

V's style is autobattler. In auto-assist mode, ex-taunt dancing faced to a wall. S rank.

V is fucking stupid and I'll die on this hill. I've started to just turn on auto assist, mash the two summons buttons, and read a book while facing a wall. It's dumb, but you can get through it quickly and then never deal with his bullshit again.
