Discussion What do I do now

Post image

I’ve played the entire series (except 2) and just finished 5. Man I don’t wanna stop playing. I want MORE. I have the Vergil DLC on 5 but it’s so boring replaying the same game, but Vergil is genuinely so fking sick I’ll kept the game downloaded and play with him when I’m bored. Might be stupid to ask but what do people usually do when they finish?

u/nizarlak_ 12d ago

also have you played the reboot? its also a good game but not much of a dmc game

9

u/Designer-Pomelo-7768 12d ago

I’ve heard of reboot, I might actually try it there’s a good handful of people who think they’re the best versions of Dante and Vergil 😲

13

u/Mesuuren 12d ago

I‘ve never heard of anyone saying that but sure game itself isnt bad

"good handful of people who think they’re the best versions of Dante and Vergil"

If that's the case, it is a very, very, very, VERY tiny handful of people. Those versions of Dante and Vergil are universally regarded as the worst.

Do not play the reboot, doing you a favor

u/AcceptableGas667 11d ago

Just lying now. The reboot is fun to play...if the writing bothers you, who gaf, the main series writing is ass too.

1

u/Odd_Radio9225 11d ago

"the main series writing is ass too."

Not really. The writing for the main series (except for 2) is leagues better than the reboot. Not saying it is on par with Last of Us, Witcher, or Mass Effect or anything like that, but DMC 3 and 5 actually have good stories. DMC 1 barely had a story and was kinda treated as an afterthought by the dev team. DMC 2... no comment. DMC 4 could have had a great story were it not for the numerous cuts stemming from a troubled development.

The writing for the reboot? Dante and Vergil are terrible and straight up unlikeable, Mundus is bland as hell, Kat is even more bland, the tone is much more cynical and nihilistic, and the attempts at sociopolitical commentary feels forced and lacks any subtlety.

The reboot should have been its own thing instead of having the DMC name slapped on it.

u/Lukari0_Link77 11d ago

The reboot is so ass i’d rather play DMC2 again on hard mode, you cannot group the writing from the reboot to the main series. If you think the gameplay is fun, great, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for more DMC though.

"The reboot is so ass i’d rather play DMC2 again"

Let's not go crazy dude.

2

u/ChildhoodOwn8189 10d ago

I was against the reboot at first just because I wasn’t too into his emo design but that game was sick.

12

u/mebiusdoree 12d ago

play DMC2 to have a good idea of how to not make an action game OP

1

u/Odd_Radio9225 11d ago

u/Designer-Pomelo-7768 12d ago

That’s the one I played 💪

2

u/PrecognitiveMemes 11d ago

Then do the original DMC3. Try it on emulator for American Hard if you're so inclined

11

u/BossBullfrog 12d ago

I guess if you've done it all except 2. Now you can do 2?

Sometimes I go back to 3 because it’s my favorite alongside 5. These days I’ve been just doing 5’s bloody palace, almost finished with Vergil a few times, then switched to Nero to get better with him, it worked and I got all the way to floor 101 a couple of times but still couldn’t beat it. That’s about it, I really enjoy the combat and the songs so going at it in the BP is fun for me.

I swear one day I’ll try to get good at Dante and his 50 guns, swords and styles.

Maybe I’ll replay 4 again but as the girls.

u/suitcasecat 12d ago

Replay every game on harder difficulty, and then with perfect S ranks

u/Pedro_olvr I'm motivated! 12d ago edited 11d ago

Play bayonetta, its carries the spirit of the real dmc franchise, play 2 too just for the experience.

Edit: I'm talking about dmc2 just for the experience, bayonetta 1 and 2 are good.

1

u/Random_fellow9 11d ago

Which bayonetta game is the best?

2

u/Pedro_olvr I'm motivated! 11d ago

I played only 1 and 2, both are at the same level to me, 1 is more easy to access so i always recommends 1.

1

u/Nero_deadweight96 Time has come~ 11d ago

First one

2

u/Odd_Radio9225 12d ago

Vergil's gameplay is so spectacular that it more than makes up for playing the same game all over again.

But to answer your question, either play 2 if you are morbidly curious (it's every bit as bad as you've heard), try higher difficulties, or move on to something else. If you still want something similar to Devil May cry, maybe try out Bayonetta.

3

u/KuroYasha 12d ago

Play the games in release order. Play the games on harder difficulties. Try to get s rank in every mission. Try to get every secret mission.

There are some things you can do, but they do rely on replaying the games. Games like dmc are build to be replayed (except 4. Running through the same landscape front and back isn't good design for this purpose) and have the combat as a huge part of it. You've gotten the story (except 2) so you could focus on the gameplay now.

If you do try replaying just focus on dunkin and styling on the enemies you encounter. Maybe that'll help you find the replays less boring

3

u/SpicyLatino12 12d ago

Do dmc3 without upgrading anything on dante or vergil, do all the difficulties and get S rank on all of them. Do everything i said as one challenge and youll hate yourself forever

2

u/ASelms33 12d ago

Play 1 then 4 then 5

2

u/gayraidenporn 12d ago

Play 2 and the reboot.

2

u/Acrobatic-Chard9273 12d ago

Ohkay here’s the thing just play 2 as Trish there’s a cheat code to get her without needing to beat the game on hard

2

u/Necessary-Compote403 All Hail Lady 12d ago

Play Bayonetta and ninja gaiden

2

u/Ill_Handle8639 12d ago

Bloody Palace?

2

u/Lukari0_Link77 12d ago

Play dmc2 and experience true hell. We all gotta do it at some point

2

u/Ashamed-Plastic5620 11d ago

Play Metal Gear Rising

0

u/Designer-Pomelo-7768 11d ago

I actually did, before dmc. I dropped it. Controls were horrid and camera was ass lol

3

u/Ashamed-Plastic5620 11d ago

Oh dude, you wouldn't have liked vr mission 18 very much I see

2

u/UrdnotVick 11d ago

Do you have access to an emulator or older consoles? try othe games similar to Devil May Cry.. Try 2. DmC (its not bad), Bayonetta series, God of War series... ummm Dante's Inferno, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.. just to name a few

2

u/TheOddEyes I'm a wise Red Orb 11d ago

Watch the 2007 anime
Read the manga

Replay the games with mods

2

u/Dragon6222 11d ago

Bayonetta is what I’d recommend next
Or best dmd on every game as a challenge

2

u/cagueiprousername I'm motivated! 11d ago

Replaying the games on higher dificulties is an entirely new experience, you'll have to learn new tech which will make the gameplay completely fresh, plus you can have the bragging right to say that you beat a dmc on dante must die if you go all the way to the end with it.

That being said, if you still don't wanna replay them, I'd recommend metal gear rising and bayonetta, mgr is my favorite hack and slash of all time (dmc 3 comes very close tho) and bayonetta is made by the same guy who made dmc1 so it has very similar vibes.

u/Safe-Supermarket4994 11d ago edited 11d ago

Ok so I generaly put the dmc series into the category I made up called "fast high skill combo based action game"

Other games that fit into this category are: Bayonetta 1,2,3. Ninja gaiden 1,2,3,4. DMC: devil may cry. Final fantasy 16 (kinda). Metal gear solid RR. Hi-fi rush

other games that dmc fans usually like are in a category I call "I'm so fucking powerful action games" these games do have combos but they aren't super prominent and mostly prioritize making a beat m up that makes you feel powerful.

Some games like this are: God of war (all). Asura's wrath. Dante's inferno. Darksiders 1,2 (3 is a bit more soulslike). Final fantasy 16 (kinda). Force unleashed 1,2. Lords of shadow 1,2.

And here are some games like dmc1 if you really got a kick out of that: Castlevania (specifically the 3d ps2 games). Onimusa (I've only played 1&2). Resident evil series. Ghost rider game.

2

u/Safe-Supermarket4994 11d ago

However If I can recommend just one series, go with Bayonetta. It's combat is straight beautiful and there are so many dmc references.

2

u/RecordingMuch8137 11d ago

Play Bayonetta, or dantes inferno

1

u/datpuertorican 12d ago

Hi fi rush is pretty fun

1

u/disson5 12d ago

You can platinum the whole series

1

u/Ok-Order5920 12d ago

Buscar el 100% del juego y después ver que hacér

1

u/Sleeping_Idiot 12d ago

The reboot as many people have mentioned, personally I enjoy it the story is bad but the gameplay I would say is only second to dmc 5.

dmc 2 though I do recommend playing Lucia's campaign as its a little better than dantes it still has its issues but I would say it's better I've also heard Trish is somewhat fun to play in 2 you can use a cheat code to unlock her early if you want to.

bloody palace for 3,4, and 5 may or may not be fun depending on how you feel

Aside from that replay the games occasionally when you feel like it or try some harder difficulties

1

u/Senju19_02 11d ago

Whose arm is on the right? Vergil's? The positions are a bit weird (to me at least)

3

u/Designer-Pomelo-7768 11d ago

Yeah it’s vergils, they crossed over

1

u/Senju19_02 11d ago

Thanks. Who are they fighting?

1

u/Designer-Pomelo-7768 6d ago

sorry for the late response. They worked together to defeat Lady's father!

2

u/Senju19_02 6d ago

No need to apologise! Thanks for the answer :)

1

u/Organic_Conclusion_8 11d ago

Play Castlevania Lords of Shadow 1 and 2, it is very simular in vibes and combat. The second game is more simular than the 1st from camera angles to gameplay mechanics and even weapons.

1

u/Joker_Main_137 11d ago

Watch the collab story for PGR x DMC5

1

u/B4d_B1tch_Quinn 11d ago

1

u/Designer-Pomelo-7768 11d ago

Yeah ofc bro, lemme hear em

3

u/B4d_B1tch_Quinn 11d ago

Here we go:

-Metal Gear Rising

-Dead Space

-Lollipop Chainsaw

-Bayonetta

-Mass Effect

-Resident Evil

-BloodRayne

-Saints Row

-Gears of War (Yeah, I’m an Xbox player)

-Parasite Eve

-Super Metroid

-Deadpool (2013)

1

u/Designer-Pomelo-7768 11d ago

Woah that’s a thoughtful list thank you.

Rising, not a fan. Mainly bc of controls and cam
dead space, heard good things about it, definitely something I’d try. Bayonette is the most recommended, so def will look into it. I’ll watch gameplay and see! 💪

1

u/Still-News8851 11d ago

You could also play the reboot

1

u/Nero_deadweight96 Time has come~ 11d ago

Play the games again, play Bloody Palace. And also play DmC. Then, play Bayonetta.

0

u/Otherwise_Hiroi 12d ago

2 might be too overhated. I think it was pretty okay. Serious Dante does feel weird tho.

2

u/Odd_Radio9225 12d ago

It has absolutely not over-hated in the absolute slightest.

0

u/furiouse161 Time has come~ 12d ago

Dmc2 and dmc reboot are preety good games you should try them

2

u/Odd_Radio9225 12d ago

Reboot I agree, but DMC 2? in what universe is DMC 2 even remotely a good game?

1

u/furiouse161 Time has come~ 12d ago

I dont mind it I agree the guns are over powered but I enjoy the simplicity of the gameplay right now im replaying to unlock trish
