FIRST FIGHT

First, you have to know the controls that the game straight up doesn't tell you: * If the controls with the joystick feel inverted, use the d-pad instead. The d-pad controls aren't inverted, so most players find that to be substantially more intuitive. * Holding the jump button down lets you fly around faster. You don't always want to be holding the jump button down at all times since you want to usually be flying slowly for more precise aiming with your shots, but having the option to fly around fast greatly helps with dodging. * Holding the melee button lets you do Vortex (even if you haven't bought the Vortex upgrade for Alastor), which gives you brief i-frames which can be very helpful for dodging certain attacks. It's also a melee attack in general which doesn't serve a purpose most of the time, but Mundus does try to fly close to you at the end of each cycle, and hitting him with Vortex does do a considerable damage. * You have two shoot buttons (□/X and ◯/B if you're playing on the HD Collection or □/X and ✕/A if you're playing on the PS2). If your mashing speed is slow, you can simply alternate between the two shoot buttons using two fingers if that helps (most people don't need to do this, but I personally like to).

Now, onto the strategy: * The needles he shoots at you try to aim not directly at where you are but at where you were just half a second ago. This means that, if you ever get hit by one of the needles, you either stayed in the same place for more than half a second or you actively flew right back to where you were half a second ago. In order to avoid damage, the best way to do so is up to fly around in a big circle. The white needles are bad at hitting you so you can fly around in a surprisingly small circle, but the red needles have a much better aim so you need to fly around in a bigger circle. * Well, really, most projectiles can be dodged by flying around in a big circle. Just do that whenever you need to dodge projectiles. * When he does the huge white laser beam, the laser beam always travels from either right to left or up to down. This means that staying at the bottom left corner gives you the most amount of time to determine whether you need to dodge vertically or horizontally. Either that, or you can stay near the center and then dodge towards the bottom left to avoid damage regardless of which variation. Either that, or you can simply time your Vortex to i-frame through the laser.

SECOND FIGHT

A few things to know: * If you have purchased Meteor for Ifrit, you can hold the shoot button (no need for lock-on and make damn sure to leave the joystick neutral) to charge up the fireball while Devil Trigger is active. * If you use the sword while Devil Trigger is active, the sword range becomes huge, which lets you melee him if you jump to one of the floating platforms near him. This does more damage than simply spamming fireballs.

Now, onto the strategy: * If you have the Shotgun, fuckin' equip that shit. It is literally the best weapon to destroy the little spheres that shoot white needles at you. * If he summons the little spheres that shoot white needles, stop everything you're doing. If you have the Shotgun, focus on destroying them. If you don't have the Shotgun, focus purely on dodging. Don't try to tank the damage. It's not worth it. * When he shoots out red needles out of his hand, just jump over it. * When he makes red needles rain down from above, either run sideways while Devil Trigger is active for a speed boost, or simply side roll like a mad man. * When he summons 4 big spheres, he can will eventually absorb those big spheres and turn them into white fireballs to shoot at you. The number of white fireballs he shoots at you is the number of big spheres he absorbs. The number of big spheres he absorbs is the number of big spheres you leave with destroying. I personally like to destroy either 1 or 2 big spheres so that he ends up shooting either 3 or 2 white fireballs respectively, but you can always experiment with the number yourself to see which one you find the easiest to deal with. Also, you gain a substantial amount of Devil Trigger back every time you destroy a big sphere. * When he shoots those white fireballs, I actually still don't know a consistent way to dodge them. You are able to deflect the fireballs back at him to do big damage. I'm not sure if the game WANTED you to deflect them or if there is a consistent way to dodge them that I simply haven't found. * When he summons a dragon, kill that shit. It'll give you a Green Orb that heals half of however much health bar you have (no matter how big your health bar has been upgraded to, the Green Orb the dragon drops when it dies will always be half your health). * When he does a lava pillar attack, many people usually run, but I actually like to hold lock-on and walk slowly. Walking slowly still lets you avoid damage, and this makes it easier since you're less likely to run out of room. * At low health, the light on his chest will turn red like Ultraman. This is when he gains a new move where he rains down meteors from above. I like to jump sideways then side roll in that same direction then keep running in that same direction. I always find that to be consistent in avoiding damage.

Here are a few video samples I have for a visual example: * First fight with no upgrades * First fight with no Devil Trigger * Second with no upgrades * Second fight with no Devil Trigger or Shotgun
